Rex hints that Jets might have QB moves coming

In the interest of your safety, please put down your coffee. Maybe sit, even, this news is so shocking.

The Jets might make another move at quarterback.

Coach Rex Ryan hinted that something was up during an appearance with ESPN Radio’s “Mike and Mike” show.

When asked if they planned to keep their current four quarterbacks, Ryan said he  was “not 100 percent sure”, adding, “We’ll see how it plays out over the next few days.”

That’s only going to fuel speculation, whether about the health of former starter Mark Sanchez, or the roster spot of newcomer Brady Quinn, whose salary becomes guaranteed if he’s on the roster Sunday.

Sanchez is expected to miss at least this week and next with a shoulder injury, though they’re calling him “day-to-day.” General Manager John Idzik said Wednesday he didn’t think injured reserve was an option.

“We’re not looking at that,” Idzik said, via Rich Cimini of “We’re looking at Mark continuing his rehabbing. We said it’s day-to-day. It’s very unpredictable. Mark knows his body better than anybody else. He’s working very hard and so, hopefully, we’ll get him back here soon.”

If it’s going to be soon, they probably wouldn’t need Quinn hanging around, since it’s clear Geno Smith’s going to start and get a chance to make the job his own. They also have Matt Simms, but as with all things Jets, it’s impossible to know what’s coming next.

Cutting Sanchez and Quinn and signing former Giant David Carr, who will be their starter by week 7.

You must be the only NFL team who has no clue what’s happening with the QB. This team is really a complete mess. At least try and act professional.

    Sanchez is a known quantity.
Geno didn’t impress at all in the preseason.

Why Matt Simms isn’t starting week one just to see what he can do in the regular season is beyond me.

Rex Ryan is gone, the team is in shambles. It doesn’t matter who starts week one or week seventeen or anywhere in between. Why not give Simms a shot? He was the most impressive QB on the roster in the preseason.

And yes… I know it’s just the preseason.

How about trade right now for Kirk Cousins?
The redskins have 4 QB’s on their roster better than the entire Jets and Raiders.

There’s a rumor that the Raiders may turn to an Undrafted Free Agent QB from Penn State if Pryor struggles.

Mark Sanchez was hit with Giants 96 left elbow. The ground didn’t cause the shoulder injury, It was cause by the left elbow of defensive lineman 96. 96 should have been fine and out for one year.

  25. nfloracle says: Sep 6, 2013 10:31 AM

    This is simple…

Release Geno, PUP Sanchez, name Quinn back-up, and start Simms.

  26. steelcurtain9 says: Sep 6, 2013 10:55 AM

Maybe they go after Vince Young. He was with offensive coordinator previously in Philadelphia.

On another note, it seems to me like Rex Ryan is totally overwhelmed and is struggling to keep this team going.

I bet someone has interest in Sanchez. There’s plenty of teams with shaky QB’s who probably think Sanchez is just a victim of Gang Green and is actually good.

  29. richndc says: Sep 6, 2013 11:12 AM

Mark Sanchez–the new David Carr–sexy Rexy needs to get his mind off feet, swinging and lap bands–it’s called football dude. That blow hard “us against the world, we are gonna show them all” nonsense is just snake oil. Talent, motivation, match ups, and a little luck. But keep running that mouth, sites like this would not even exist were it not for the Rex Ryans of the NFL.

    Did I miss something here??
All he said was he’s not sure yet we’ll see …Isn’t that what everyone would say when you have an injured QB and a guy you just signed that may not pickup the offense??
Why does everyone read into everything this guy says like he’s got no clue what he’s doing, this guy can flat out coach he’s NEVER had a playmaker or a truly talented team thanks to his ignorant former GM who traded away all their picks to move up in every draft or the one before him who was just completely imcompetent .
The guy can’t say a word without being twisted into a “story” it’s ridiculous if he was in Indy or Jax no one would hear anything or have a problem with anything he’s done…The players say it all look back at every poll who the players want to play for there’s 2 names at the top every year Tomlin and Rex !
