Browns add Tori Gurley, release Dennis Johnson

The Browns added practice squad wide receiver Tori Gurley to their 53-player roster on Saturday, the club said.

To make room for Gurley, the Browns waived rookie running back Dennis Johnson.

The addition of Gurley gives the Browns five wide receivers for the season opener against Miami. It also leaves Bobby Rainey as the only backup running back to Trent Richardson. That said, fullback Chris Ogbonnaya could play tailback if needed.

Gurley, 25, has played with seven NFL teams since entering the league in 2011. He previously had stints on practice squads with the Packers, Vikings, Raiders, Buccaneers and Chargers. He was also with Baltimore earlier this offseason.

An undrafted rookie free agent from Arkansas, Johnson was added off waivers from Houston on Sunday.

    Two things this tells us:

    1. T. Rich has this, and the Browns don’t need the extra RB.

    2. With Gordon out for two games, the WR corps needs all the help it can get.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Houston put on the practice squad. Showed some speed in preseason but had a few dropsies…….

This kid has to be tough, with a name like Tori Gurley. The doc that delivered him shoulda slapped the parents instead. Go Browns.
