The Dolphins are reportedly set to give one of their defensive starters a new multi-year contract as the regular season begins.

According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, the Dolphins are nearing a four-year contract with linebacker Koa Misi. Also, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports the deal has been “finalized.”

The 26-year-old Misi has started 34 games in three seasons with Miami, recording 140 tackles and nine sacks. In 2012, Misi notched a career-best 65 tackles in 14 starts. He also recorded 3.5 sacks and forced two tumbles.

Misi (6-3, 254) is one of the Dolphins’ first-string outside linebackers in their 4-3 scheme.

Miami plays at Cleveland in the season opener for both clubs on Sunday.

A little better than average but not a star. If they can get him locked up for the right price…. do it.

I believe he was a 3rd rd draft pick of the fins a few years ago. Good to see home-grown talent staying on the team.

Solid player who can line up in multiple spots , also surprisingly good in pass coverage.

One of the more versatile young lb’s in the league, good player. most people don’t know that because unless they help their fantasy team they are no good. Miami is locking down their young talent. Still say trade Starks.

And for the haters, misi was a top 10 4-3 lb according to pro football focus

Always interested in seeing how Koa does. As a Lions fan I remember Gunther Cunningham raving about a mystery man they were targeting in the mid-rounds o that draft. After the draft he was asked who it was and he said Koa Misi.

As a Dolphin fan…why? Unless it’s a low figure deal, I don’t get this decision.

Because he is a young, solid, dependable and versatile starter. He is not a superstar but he is the kind of player you keep. It shouldn’t be a huge amount of money. We spent a ton on a superstar LB in Dansby and got a bunch of tackles and about 3 big plays for it. Misi makes more sense than that did.

Forgot to mention that it also makes it much easier to trade him (possibly for a decent TE) if that is what they choose to do. I am not advocating that, just saying it is possible and known contract numbers make it easier.

MC; you don’t watch many Dolphin games, do you? Because, if you did, you wouldn’t have to ask, why. Go Fins.

This guy has improved every year he has played. I can’t wait to see if he is able to bump it up another level.
