Another fourth-quarter comeback for Andrew Luck

Reuters

For large stretches of the day, the passer you expected to be mobile was.

But at the end, it was Colts quarterback Andrew Luck whose wheels led his team to a 21-17 win over the Raiders.

Luck’s 19-yard scramble for a touchdown capped an unlikely comeback for the Colts, unlikely because the Raiders were tougher than anticipated.

Terrelle Pryor ran for 112 yards, but his two picks unraveled that good work, allowing Luck to lead a comeback as he did so many times as a rookie. Luck had seven game-winning drives last year to lead the Colts to an 11-5 mark.

Luck was 18-of-23 passing for 178 yards, with two touchdowns. But his ability to split the middle of the Raiders defense allowed his side to avoid the upset.

  1. At home against the worst or second to worst team in the entire league and barely win. Eww.. Luck is better than that and I expect him to improve, but this season isn’t coming off the worst record, therefor they play good teams. I’m not sure this team can without a lot luck win more than 9 games. That’s their ceiling. Just my opinion doesn’t mean crap really. Lol

  2. Overall, good game. The scrubs we call the “Raiders” actually played pretty well. I would rahter spend less on guys who want to play than overpay for guys who run great 40’s (the AL Davis way) . Next year, we have $70 mil to spend. Add some talent to Houston, Streater, Pryor, Moore, etc.. Maybe the next ten years aren’t as bad as the last.

Are we forgetting how bad the Raiders are at everything except kicking < 50 yd? Even IF the Colts can't stop the Raiders run game (28th!) last year, how do you figure the Raiders can stop Andrew Luck? By giving him 15 seconds in the pocket like the Raiders gave Brees? Expect a high scoring game from the Raiders? Do you think #BlackTebow is going to QB sneak the Colts to death? The Raiders will be lucky to come out with 6pts. Write THAT down. Downvote if you agree!

All you Raiders fans that have made the trip to cheer for your favorite team, enjoy your visit. You will find the city clean, the people friendly and the stadium world class. When you leave I hope you realize that it is far more important that the team on the field not the fans in the stand who should be feared. That being said, the Colts will kick a$$ and take names when the Raiders come to town. GO BLUE.

Not quite the game you idiots expected, was it?

Be happy Pryor mistakenly took that sack or the Raiders would have won.

    SMH.

  4. There is no way the Raiders are the worst team in the NFL? They were pretty solid on both offense and defense.
That being said, Andrew Luck is unbelievable. Another come from behind victory.

  5. “But his ability to split the middle of the Raiders defense allowed his side to avoid the upset.”

DHB’s ability to hold and the refs looking the other way on the play allowed his side to avoid the upset….

  6. Hats off to Terrelle Pryor though… he played a good game, although you should never take a sack in the red zone area.

Ton of good finishes so far this weekend. I LOVE FOOTBALL!!

  7. Hell of an effort by Pryor? With his feet maybe. His arm tossed two crippling interceptions. The crush Raiders fans have on Pryor is cute, but he cannot pass.

  8. This was Pryor’s SECOND NFL start, and as I recall, Peyton Manning was 3-13 his rookie year.

Pryor is going to make mistakes, but the kid has a great attitude and work ethic, and he has tremendous upside.

  9. More positive can be extracted from this loss than any other of the past ten years.

There is much work to be done, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

    Go Raiders

  10. The fix was in for this game. NFL and the Refs clearly cheated against the raiders again.
There was about 6 players holding during the Luck TD at the end of the game. There was CLEAR holding on BOTH TDs that luck threw.
Raiders won that game, I don’t care what the score board says, if anyone watched that game with a bias point of view they would say the same thing.
Luck should of been sacked a dozen times but Colts were holding and not 1 flag for it

  11. I expected the colts’ to easily beat the raiders. But it was a surprisingly good game. Pryor impressed me. Yes, those interceptions were bad, but he had some nice looking passes as well. With experience, he’ll make better decisions. And his running ability is an obvious weapon. Just think how good Pryor can become if: his offensive line could actually protect him, and if he had better receivers. Give the guy a chance to develop and put better players around him…he can be much more than “the black tim Tebow.”

  12. much respect to the raiders, they arent the worse team in the league, the jags and steelers are, give pryor or year or two and some weapons, he can be pretty good

  13. LAMO at raider fan. Losing is a way of life I guess. Funny how they’re happy with almost winning.

Let me ask you DA’s. Do “almost wins” count towards anything in regards to making the playoffs?

    Stay classless, losers!

Luck got the go-ahead score, but Pryor’s mistakes on Oakland’s last drive sealed the win for the Colts.

Look at the Chiefs fan trying to get in his licks. You don’t get to play the Jags every week, Hilljack.

  16. Raiders played better than expected but if your QB is your leading rusher, he is going to get hurt. They had better find a running game or Flynn will be starting soon.

  17. Only now, DHB understands what it means to play for any team other than the Raiders. Last year, he would have been called for holding. This year, not so much

  18. This will likely be the theme for the Raiders this season (until Pryer gets hurt leaving the pocket like that). Close, gritty games, which ultimately still end in loses. It’s a tough situation.

If I were a Colts’ fan, I’d actually be somewhat worried. Oakland has generally been considered to be the shoe-in for #1 pick in the ’14 draft. But they were a few stupid plays away from beating the Colts, in Indy.

  19. Officiating sucked. There was NO personal foul on DHB and there was a blatant hold on Luck’s 19 yard TD run. PLUS the “sack” in Pryor should have been reviewed minimally but actually it was a incomplete pass… F the Refs!

  20. Problem with getting credit for a combeback win is there’s no way to account for what the QB did to put them in that position. In the case of Luck today, he did not throw an INTs and had a good completion percentage. But it’s not always that simple. Maybe the QB took too many unnecessary sacks or missed an obviously open receiver on 3 and 10, leading to a punt. In the end, I guess I understand the concept…bringing the team back under pressure and not choking. Just doesn’t seem right to get the credit, however, when you’ve thrown a few picks or lost a few fumbles.

  21. I think this loss goes to Jano for blowing that 48 yard fg at the end of the first half. With that, all we need is another fg, which would have been a chip shot for Jano to win at the end of the game.

  22. @raiderapologist
That is how it usually works. One team makes a mistake and the other team takes advantage of it and gets the come from behind victory. Luck had 7 last year and now he has started this year with one. It makes for an excitimg game but as a fan I would prefer a blow out victory once and a while.

  23. According to almost all analyst the Raiders are the worst team in the NFL. Jeez…I’d like to know how bad Pittsburgh and Jacksonville are and in what league they’re in if the Raiders are the worst team in the NFL. Raiders actually looked like a decent team out there.

  24. Grinds My Gear:

I think certain fans are in store for some epic horribleness this season. The Raiders? Probably, but those fans likely didn’t expect much. But the Steelers? They look so bad that they might have to fire everyone, and start from scratch.

  25. Looks like the Carson Palmer trade finally paid off. A 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, and finally some good results. 300 yards, 2 TD’s and good overall performance. Oh wait, what? Chokeland didn’t know how to use him? It’s a place where players just take a paycheck(McFadden)?

It’s just too bad some of that faider luck rubbed off on him in a Cardinals uniform.

OAK should change their motto to “just break .500 baby”…

Pretty soon, you’re going to hear Raiders’ fans complain about the officiating. Oh, wait…

Hey look fellow Raider fans, smack talk from a typing vibrator!

Yeah, he had some 300 yard games last year, too. And also lost those, without benefit of a legitimate receiver. Chiefs players have been cashing checks since 1970 and have little to show for it. They haven’t won a playoff game in almost 20 years, and got swept by the Raiders last season. You sound like a guy that’s a bit bitter about his mom’s Raider Nation butt hat tattoo. Go trim your mullet.

  28. The Oakland Raiders are the worst coached team in the NFL. 1st & 10 @ the colts 8 with 1:13 left and they dial up a pass? R u freaking kidding?? Rookie play caller kills comeback read all about it!

  29. lol cue the Luck slurping… another “comeback” against a creampuff opponent… nice game – 178 yards against a bottom 3 team at home when you’ve had all offseason to prepare for them…. if Luck was so great they would’ve blown Oaklands doors off.

Sorry to say the Colts schedule might actually be a little tougher this year so Luck the turnover machine wont be able to dig himself huge holes for his “comebacks”… we all saw what happened when they got to the playoffs and played a real opponent…. he’s the worst of the young 4 QBs right now by far.

  30. I love reading all the Colts HATERS comments. LOL, move on losers and get a life. This is JUST A GAME. It’s ENTERTAINMENT. Pryor’s great game can be attributed to there being ZERO film on him and the Colt’s being thin at linebacker. BTW, Luck had ZERO turnovers.

  31. Pftfanatic, you obviously did not watch this game. Luck faced constant, relentless pressure in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter. The Colts o-line is horrific, just like last year. Luck probably should have been sacked 10 times, but his athleticism helped avoid several sacks. And BTW, Luck had zero turnovers.

  32. I love the haters… , talking about raider hating nonsense… all the raiders fan knew not to expect much this year, but after yesterday we were all surprised how competitive they were. So go ahead and hate.

Hats off to the NFL leading rusher TP!!!! If not for a missed field goal by Seabass near end of second quarter we might have won this game.
