Big blow for Steelers: Foote, Pouncey likely done for season

Maurkice Pouncey, Antonio Brown AP

The Steelers’ loss to the Titans today was ugly. The injury report was uglier.

After the game, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said doctors believe starting center Maurkice Pouncey suffered a torn ACL and MCL, and that starting linebacker Larry Foote suffered a ruptured bicep.

Although Tomlin said the doctors haven’t determined exactly how long Pouncey and Foote will be out, when asked whether those two injuries are season-ending, Tomlin answered, “I would assume so.”

That’s a huge blow for the Steelers, who will now have to scramble to find replacements for important players on both sides of the ball. On the field and on the injury front, no team had a worse Week One than the Steelers.

Don’t like to see that even if you really dislike the Steelers. Shame Pouncey is lost to such stupidity.

And nothing of value was lost.

Tomlin is such a knowledgeable coach. He needs to be evaluated by the doctors as well.

  5. Smarterthanyou says: Sep 8, 2013 4:47 PM

    I said all preseason.

The Steelers are old, slow, and they will not sniff another Super Bowl for at least a decade.
Time to blow it up and start from scratch.

    PRICELESS!!!!!!

  6. wallacejay says: Sep 8, 2013 4:48 PM

What is it with the Steeler lineman taking each other out? Last year I think it was Gilbert rolling guys up, now DeCastro’s getting in on the fun. Not only can’t they stay healthy, they flat out stink.

  7. orivar says: Sep 8, 2013 4:49 PM

I stand by my statement. To the person that wished he is out for a year on the other article, I hope they get to experience what a torn acl/mcl feels like and I bet you they will never say that again.

Don’t get fans that root or gloat about injuries. Mainly a ravens fan thing I guess. It’s too bad, the steelers have certainly had more than their share the last couple of years. I’d always want my team to beat the other team’s best.

These 2 were essential to Steeler success this year. Sorry to see their seasons end like this. Speedy recovery to both. I am not a Steeler fan but, hate to see this. The Steelers may be forced to go younger by default. That may not be a bad thing either. I remember when Tommy Maddox was taken out by the Ravens in Baltimore. In stepped a young no name QB and the rest is history. Good luck to these 2 as they recover and hopefully return 100%. I hate injuries, but know its part of the game.

After watching the stink up the joint today I don’t think it matters. They can’t run the ball, they can’t protect Big Ben, their special teams are less than special and they continue to give up too many 3rd and long plays. Brutal.

Nah. What they get is James Harrison in a Bengals jersey, and Mike Wallace in a Dolphins jersey. Their receivers look really lame, and they obviously need a linebacker now. Injury for injury isn’t really how karma works if it’s from a fan’s standpoint. The player didn’t do anything to you personally, and Pouncey/Foote are probably in some pain right now.

  36. Deb says: Sep 8, 2013 5:07 PM

    @tedmurph …

Thank you. People who gloat over player injuries are not fans of the game–and that includes any Steelers fans who may have laughed about the injury to Jacoby Jones.

Offensive line coach Sean Kugler was one of our best acquisitions in recent years. Obviously losing him to an NCAA head-coaching position has done more damage than anyone anticipated. Surely we could have hired a repacement that would have built on Kugler’s progress rather than introducing an entirely new zone-blocking scheme.

  37. eaglefan94 says: Sep 8, 2013 5:08 PM

  46. realfootballfan says: Sep 8, 2013 5:27 PM

For the silly fans ripping Tomlin, I guess he has some youth serum to give this roster that Colbert drafted for him. Of any team in the NFL that I know the coach has little to no involvement with the draft picks, it’s the Steelers, so blame him and ownership for running out a perfectly content OC because they didn’t like his style of play. The Hayley experiment is not working out for the better.

  47. 2ndaryinsanity says: Sep 8, 2013 5:28 PM

What is one of the most classless things football fans do? Laugh and gloat when a player is injured. Torn ligaments can be horribly painful, and the 6-12 months of rehab sucks. Not to mention the fact complications could end a player’s career. So try not to be such d%#@ heads.

Your point was good until you suggested it was a “Ravens fan thing.” Every fan base has sick fans, and it is not limited to just the Ravens. I seem to remember a few trolls gloating over recent injuries to Ravens players, but obviously either you didn’t see that, or simply choose to ignore it.
That being said, I hope for speedy recoveries to Mr. Pouncey and Mr. Foote.

The division is 0fer. The pressure is on the Bengals. The Steelers still have the best defense in the division and look forward to Bell and Heath Miller coming back. Anyone who follows the Steelers knows that losing Larry Foote is a plus for this defense. Sorry for bis injury but we just got stronger on defense.

Nothing that happened today erases the fact that the Ravens were destroyed Thursday. Total domination on both sides of the ball. And joemontanaflacco is hiding in a hole.

  69. isphet71 says: Sep 8, 2013 6:49 PM

Went back and reread the posts on the J. Jones story. Two Steelers fans posted “happy to see the injury” comments…two. At least ten posted that they don’t like to see anyone hurt.

How is it Hakey’s fault that the line can’t block, the RBs can run or even hold into the ball. As good as Ben can be, he still needs time to throw and a RB to keep the defense honest.
Sure the defense lacked turnovers again, but without the great defensive play the out cone would’ve been alot worse.
10 wins could still happen but the offensive line needs to drastically improve.

  87. goofybiker says: Sep 9, 2013 8:51 AM

Hailey was a bad choice from day 1. Tomlin’s success was with a team that Cower built. They haven’t shown me a thing. Their 1 & 2 round draft picks are horrible. They need to realize the O-line needs team players and speed, not just big guys who throw blocks with their head down and take out a team mate. Get smart front office! Bring in some real football coaches. Fire Hailey NOW. Tomlin too. Let 76 year old dick Lebeau take over head coach, and bring in some that understands offense not dink dunk and try to run with no blocking.
