Falcons rookie cornerbacks on the spot in opener

Falcons Football AP

The Falcons made a clear statement of intent when they used their first two draft picks on cornerbacks Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford.

And with veteran Asante Samuel on today’s inactive list with a thigh injury, they’re going to get thrown into the deep end.

As if facing Drew Brees and the Saints in the return of San Payton wasn’t enough of a challenge, doing it without their most experienced cornerback will make things that much tougher.

The only other corners on the Falcons roster are Robert McClain and Dominique Franks, and all four will be tested by a passing game with something to prove.
