No contract talks between Nicks, Giants

AP

The Giants have paid receiver Victor Cruz.  They haven’t paid receiver Hakeem Nicks.

And there’s a chance they never will.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the two sides aren’t talking as the final year of Nicks’ contract commences.  While it’s easy to assume the Giants will use the franchise tag on Nicks, keep two important things in mind.

First, it will be very expensive to use the tag, in excess of $10 million.  Second, the Giants don’t use the franchise tag very often.

Over the last 20 years, they’ve used it only three times.

So Nicks, if no deal is done, quite likely will hit the market.  And he’d then be able to go, if he so chooses, to the highest bidder.

  1. Eli throws an interception on his first pass attempt of the year and then throws another one, his confidence is shot for the rest of the season. Time to put Painter in.

Wilson continues with his fumbling ways, fumbling on his first rushing attempt. Time to bench him.

    Can’t make this stuff up.

  2. As much as I like Nicks, he’s always injured. We’ll need to re-sign JPP and Amukamara in the next 2 years, also.

I see us starting Randle next year and letting Nicks get his $50M or so. Not saying I like it, but it’s probably our only choice.

  3. I love the timing of this article. Hey, it’s the third quarter, what do you say we go to the front office and discuss your contract. Your blood sucking agent should be available. Lets go.

  4. Love the skins comment, win some Super Bowls before you start talking crap in a giants article about a giants player. You prob know more about gmen than you do your skins

  5. Why was Cruz’s TD a TD and CJ’s incomplete?
    New NFL rule:
    Large market team always TD
Small market team; No TD for you.
It is sad when the refs from the longest yard are more impartial than NFL refs.
And lets not start with the GB game. This is coming from a Lions fan who hates GB.

  6. Uh… #80 is pretty good, buddy.

Pay him, he’s about all they got.

  7. Why would they re-sign Prince Hakuma Matata? He has literally never made a big play as a pro.

Giants are so good at drafting DL, terrible at identifying serviceable defensive backs.

Hey you got swept by the skins in 2011, they split two close games last year and granted its been a long time since the skins won a super bowl. Point taken. But do you really think the skins are fretting over the vagiants? Get over yourself. We are going to continue to talk crap especially when we know it irritates you chump.
