Blaine Gabbert out this week

Apparently, having 15 stitches in your throwing hand is an issue for an NFL quarterback.

According to Mark Long of the Associated Press, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said starter Blaine Gabbert would be out this week after suffering a cut on the same hand as his previous broken thumb.

That means Chad Henne would start Sunday against the Raiders, though Bradley said he thought there was a chance Gabbert could return the following week at Seattle.

Gabbert was 16-of-35 passing for 121 yards and two interceptions in Sunday’s 28-2 loss to the Chiefs. The Chiefs staked themselves to the former first-rounder prior to the broken thumb, giving the team’s new administration a chance to see if he can play or not before deciding whether (or when) to upgrade.

Bradley also said cornerback Dwayne Gratz would miss the next three weeks with a high ankle sprain.

I think I just heard the collective cheer from Jacksonville fans all the way up here in MN.

    Gabbert/Henne, Henne/Gabbert

    Same difference

We’re just gettin’ ready for Teddy

How is this bad news for Jacksonville?

  6. steelerben says: Sep 9, 2013 4:04 PM

As bad as the Steelers looked this past weekend, at least I’m not a Jags fan. There are some serious issues on the offense there. We need a whole new offensive line, but at least Tebow isn’t starting to look like an attractive option. Yet.

    Tebow time!

Sadly I wouldnt be surprised if the Jags were shutout the next two weeks, regardless who is playing QB.

I bet Gabbert is having nightmares of Justin Houston’s sack dances. Guy was clowning the whole game.

You could stick a lamp at qb and it would probly have done better then what Gabbert did on sunday.

What a joke in Jacksonville! Like Deion said, they are going to play in the SEC.

    This sucks.

Wanted him in there to help build the confidence of the Raiders defense.

Henne always gives the Raiders trouble for some reason.

Still and better quarterback than Jamarcus Russell.

    Timmeh!

Get Tebow in there now and save the season! All he does is win! — Jesus

If a Blane Gabbert gets 15 stitches in the woods, does anyone notice?

  16. joemontanawasthegreatest says: Sep 9, 2013 4:23 PM

    Cue the “thegreatgabbert”‘s typical….

“Well when the temperature is 75 degrees or less and it’s a harvest moon, Blaine Gabbert has a similar stat line to Steve Young in his prime. ”

Blaine Gabbert is fragile and not a good QB at this point in his career. I think he’s trying but that’s not enough. Annnnnd sorry about your hand dude…..

With the first pick in the 2014 NFL draft, The Jaguars select .. Teddy Bridgewater QB Louisville. The Raiders are now on the clock.

  18. blancodiablo says: Sep 9, 2013 4:30 PM

“Thegreatgabbert” can’t respond because of the stitches in his hand. (ie…thegreatgabbert really is Gabbert!) He could only type with one hand to begin with.

  19. jimthebuilder27 says: Sep 9, 2013 4:34 PM

Time to give this guy a one-way ticket to another city.

  20. 303bengalguy says: Sep 9, 2013 4:43 PM

15 is also the number of touches that Maurice Jones-Drew got all game. Not one of them via the outlet pass that could have bailed out Gabbert on more than one occasion either (I actually watched this steaming pile of a game for fantasy reasons)

Hopefully the guy that dictated that is also out this week – and beyond. You don’t deliberately avoid using your lone legitimate threat on offense…. morons!

  21. leeweezy8 says: Sep 9, 2013 4:47 PM

Blaine Gabbert’s new name should be Chuck & Duck!

  22. granadafan says: Sep 9, 2013 4:50 PM

Will anyone notice he’s actually gone? Yesterday’s goose egg was just pathetic.

  23. craniator says: Sep 9, 2013 5:02 PM

In a related story , the Jaguars have signed PFT poster “thegreatgabbert” to the team’s roster due to the fact that he’s got a 50/50 chance of being as good as or better than his namesake already on the team.

  24. joetoronto says: Sep 9, 2013 5:28 PM

Crap, I was really looking forward to him playing against the Raiders.

I do find it ironic that “the greatgabbert” is nowhere to be seen here while Gabbert’s hand is injured. :)

  25. doublezero74 says: Sep 9, 2013 6:09 PM

Gabbert is the best! Damn, now jags will lose for sure

  26. z561 says: Sep 9, 2013 6:24 PM

They weren’t booing Crappert, they were saying “Boo-laine, Boo-laine.”

  27. broncostevenp says: Sep 9, 2013 6:38 PM

Mr. Tebow, Shad Khan on line 1.

  28. karlton3 says: Sep 9, 2013 7:37 PM

I just hope he gets back in time to play [insert favorite team name here].
