As expected, the Texans career of safety Ed Reed won’t begin tonight.

Reed, the former Ravens star who signed with Houston after Super Bowl XLVII, is inactive following offseason hip surgery.

Also inactive for the Texans in Monday night’s second game are quarterback Case Keenum, linebacker Darryl Sharpton, linebacker Sam Montgomery, tackle Andrew Gardner, guard Cody White, and tackle David Quessenberry.

Shiloh Keo will start in place of Reed.

For the home team, the following Chargers won’t dress: quarterback Brad Sorensen, receiver Seyi Ajirotutu, safety Brandon Taylor, linebacker Manti Te’o, linebacker Tourek Williams, guard Johnnie Troutman, and defensive end Drake Nevis.

Bront Bird will start in place of Te’o, who suffered a foot injury in the preseason opener.
