In the last year, Texans linebacker Brian Cushing has gone from the lows of a torn ACL to the highs of a new contract.
Night’s like Monday made both worthwhile to him.
Cushing’s interception which he returned for a touchdown capped a comeback from a 21-point deficit, tying the game the Texans would go on to win 31-28.
“That’s just how life is, I guess,” Cushing said, via Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com. “I just can’t get down in certain situations. There will be better days, and this was one of them. Playing again and helping the team win, I couldn’t ask for anything better than this.”
The Texans looked rudderless at times early as the Chargers raced out to a three-touchdown lead. But it was their defense tightening that turned the game around, and Cushing was in the middle of all that, less than a year removed from his ACL tear on Monday Night Football.
“That play should let you know he’s 100 percent healthy,” cornerback Kareem Jackson said of Cushing’s first career touchdown.
And with his return to the middle of an already good defense, the Texans have a better chance of turning last year’s flash into something more tangible.
