David Wilson tees off on the doubters

Wilson AP

Giants running back David Wilson should be worried about holding the ball, and about the man to whom he’ll answer if he can’t.

Instead, Wilson is worried about those who are criticizing him.  And he’s making his frustrations known on Twitter.

“Ayy to fantasy participants and pissed Giants fans ur irrelevant to me!!!” Wilson wrote earlier in the day on Twitter.  “Nobody wants me to succeed more than ME!!!  WATCH US WORK!”

Fantasy participants could be irrelevant to Wilson.  Giants fans, pissed or otherwise, are paying customers.

On Sunday, folks watched Wilson work.  And they watched him fumble.  If that continues, he won’t be working for long.

He definitely should have left out the part directed at Giants fans. That isn’t going to help.

  2. johnnyjagfan says: Sep 10, 2013 7:52 PM

At least he didn’t blame God, a la Stevie Johnson.

The kid is clearly frustrated. If I was his fantasy owner, I’d be mad. If I was a Giants fan, not so much.

  3. natijim235 says: Sep 10, 2013 7:52 PM

    who’s David Wislon?

  4. godsowncrunk says: Sep 10, 2013 7:53 PM

I want the man to succeed – problem is, his poor blocking and fumbles are inhibiting that, to say nothing of partially costing us a win. Not his fault, but he didn’t help.

  5. natijim235 says: Sep 10, 2013 7:53 PM

    Wilson?

  6. thepftpoet says: Sep 10, 2013 7:53 PM

I believe in you David Wilson…you’re my last hope in my fantasy league

  7. GenoAtkinswillnotbestopped says: Sep 10, 2013 7:55 PM

Careful, or he’ll add PFT to his list of people he doesn’t care about.

  8. nflfootballfan says: Sep 10, 2013 7:55 PM

The Jacobs signing will look genius when he is one of the most lethal backs in the league. He needs experience, remember Tiki Barber’s fumble problems? Kid doesn’t even have 100 rushes in his career yet, just be patient and wait… The Giant way.

  9. whatjusthapped says: Sep 10, 2013 7:55 PM

Ask Tiki Barber how defending your reputation thru the media vs your play on the field worked out?

  10. drunkwino says: Sep 10, 2013 7:57 PM

He types like he fumbled the keyboard.

  11. nygf says: Sep 10, 2013 7:57 PM

Fine. Good. Best way to get ‘em back is work hard, get it right, and go have big games. Good luck young man. And keep your mouth shut in the meantime.

  12. blacknole08 says: Sep 10, 2013 7:59 PM

Well then go work then instead of whining about it on twitter.

  13. thepftpoet says: Sep 10, 2013 8:00 PM

Why does everyone on PFT hate fantasy football? It’s the only way to physically interact with professional football players and a day-to say basis, well not physically..but you get my point!

  14. cowboychris5xchamps says: Sep 10, 2013 8:00 PM

    What’s a fantasy league? Oh yeah, a fantasy….

  15. swaggyy says: Sep 10, 2013 8:00 PM

  16. sf546 says: Sep 10, 2013 8:01 PM

Too bad Coughlin doesn’t bench the QB after 2 picks and then try out replacements the next day.

The PR department at the Giants facilitates (Pat Hanlon) are preparing his apology tweet as we speak.

  19. mtheparrothead says: Sep 10, 2013 8:04 PM

  20. 49er4life says: Sep 10, 2013 8:04 PM

This “KID” obviously doesn’t get it. Lashing out at fantasy players is one thing, but to call your own fan base irrelevant is childishly stupid.

  21. philwauke says: Sep 10, 2013 8:06 PM

  25. mtgblue1979 says: Sep 10, 2013 8:09 PM

He has a right to bee angry. Before the game all us Giants fans were saying he’s the next big thing. And after one bad game everyone turned on him forgetting the fact he’s 62646299 times more talented than Bradshaw ever was. Or that tiki had the SAME ISSUES.
I love my Giants but we have the worst fans in sports.

  26. franbotel says: Sep 10, 2013 8:10 PM

    *****************************************
Am pretty sure you know him or at least heard about him on sunday. if not you on the wrong site. Also learn to spell the man’s name it an easy one.

  27. koolaidcircusbeast says: Sep 10, 2013 8:13 PM

Hey, he succeeded in spelling “irrelevant” correctly, but dropped the ball on “you’re”?

  28. koolaidcircusbeast says: Sep 10, 2013 8:15 PM

David Wilson was Mindy McCready’s boyfriend.

  29. salazimo says: Sep 10, 2013 8:18 PM

  30. capitaloffense says: Sep 10, 2013 8:18 PM

Boy, get your ass over there and swirl the Gatorade keg and keep it flavorful for Brandon Jacobs or something. And you betta not drink a damn sip. Gatorade is not for fumblers.

  31. wearethesteelers says: Sep 10, 2013 8:20 PM

    He can’t handle the pressure.

  32. fryeways says: Sep 10, 2013 8:24 PM

Fantasy owners shouldn’t be overlooked or underestimated here. They can be awful jerks to bad players but they are extremely loyal fans to good ones. Wilson should recognize he’s blowing off people who give him a chance to be a star beyond even his own team.

  33. hartleechung says: Sep 10, 2013 8:25 PM

He doesn’t even like Giants fans…just like the rest of the planet.

  34. demolition510 says: Sep 10, 2013 8:33 PM

This fool prob dropped himself from his fantasy team after the game

  35. captainwisdom8888 says: Sep 10, 2013 8:37 PM

David…if these people were truly irrelevant to you, than you wouldn’t even be posting this on Twitter in the first place. You are in fact acknowledging that what they say DOES have an effect on you.

  36. arwiv says: Sep 10, 2013 8:37 PM

I love how 1st rd picks from a year ago, who have already shown how good they can be, are going to be out of a job before too long. Too funny.

The kid knows he’s good, he’s young and a bit immature, and he’s digusted at the fickle nature of media clowns who couldn’t dream of having the talent he does.

    This kid will be FINE.

  37. jayniner says: Sep 10, 2013 8:39 PM

  38. ebr362 says: Sep 10, 2013 8:40 PM

  39. bigbluefan1 says: Sep 10, 2013 8:41 PM

As a season ticket holder Mr. Wilson your lack of respect for the fans is just plain dumb.

The fans fill the seats buy the jersey’s and make the TV contracts as big as they are. With out the fans your nothing. You play in the biggest market in the world so suck it up kid and focus holding the ball.

You on the other hand are just a running back one who can and will be replaced if your fail to do your job. You could find your self working the drive thru at Mickey D’s but something tells me you would drop the change.

BTW I am sure the ownership will school you on how to respect the fans while the coaches teach you how to handle the ball.

  40. citizenstrange says: Sep 10, 2013 8:42 PM

  45. nygiants4rings says: Sep 10, 2013 9:01 PM

David Wilson’s brain just had a fumble.

  46. annes22 says: Sep 10, 2013 9:06 PM

Excuse me Mr Wilson, you didn’t exactly do too well on Sunday. Fumbling the ball will not help the fans like you more, so get over it. Reverting to twitter to insult people is ridiculous. Grow up for godsake, before you are bagging groceries somewhere. Your coach will not stand that for very long I am sure, and why should he??

  47. dlk47823 says: Sep 10, 2013 9:09 PM

Everyone needs to relax. Let the kid grow. He is one of the most talented running backs in the league. He will prove all the doubters wrong and have a phenomenal year. Coughlin and the media need to chill. Tiki fumbled a lot when he was first asked to carry the load and he worked out wonderfully. Just watch what Wilson becomes.

  54. excessivedrinking says: Sep 10, 2013 9:29 PM

Maybe fatboy Al Sharpton will defend his comments as being taken out of context…..

  55. sweetnlow44 says: Sep 10, 2013 9:30 PM

Dude, you lost 2 fumbles and got benched. Again. You have bigger problems than some disgruntled fantasy football fans. You focus on doing what it takes to retain employment, we’ll worry about the fantasy football stuff.

  56. keepingitrealdumb says: Sep 10, 2013 9:33 PM

he is wrong on both counts .. and in reality both counts are the same thing.

the fans are everything .. all these $million contracts, multi-$Billion TV deals .. where does the money come from? that’s right .. “the fans” .. and who are all these people playing fantasy football? that’s right .. “the fans”.

never lose sight of the fact that pro sports are a part of the “entertainment” business .. and if the customers are out there playing fantasy football .. you best believe they expect to be entertained!

  57. georgecarlan says: Sep 10, 2013 9:43 PM

  58. bennyb82 says: Sep 10, 2013 9:44 PM

  60. rcali says: Sep 10, 2013 9:54 PM

  61. cornbredd says: Sep 10, 2013 10:02 PM

Fantasy sux. Give yourself 10 hours back per week instead of trolling the waiver wire and putting a bid on Brandon Jacobs.

  65. nananatman says: Sep 10, 2013 10:41 PM

Hey guys sorry Brandon Jacobs hacked my twitter account and I love all the people who pay my bills and have watched me fumble 3 times in 25 carries and let me allow the Dallas Cowboys D Line to plant an Eli Manning tree on the 6 yard line. Watch me play and pay my bills, I’m better than you and stuff.

PS: That last bit was Jacobs again, he held me down and stole my phone. Seriously he has only been 10 minutes and he has already slapped the smart phone out of my hands twice and then dove on it shouting “recovered by Jacobs at the 5!” Big jerk.

  66. mikejd12 says: Sep 10, 2013 10:42 PM

I’m sure he is not talking about all giants fans just the doubters… He can play… Just has to hit the whole hard like he did last year. And hold on to te damn ball.

  67. ilovekneegrows says: Sep 10, 2013 10:42 PM

  76. whiskeydirk says: Sep 11, 2013 12:35 AM

    Know whose irrelevant? David Wilson.

  77. slamtrackslikeqbsacksfromlt says: Sep 11, 2013 12:43 AM

Seriously. Telling Giants fans theyre irrelevant isnt gonna win our hearts. I understand he’s young, immature, and frustrated, but choose your words a little better man… Or just stay off Twitter as a whole. That site is bad news.

As for the fumbling, I can believe I’m saying this, but maybe the Giants want to look at Tiki coming in as a consultant this year. I understand Coughlin was the one who taught Tiki how to hold the ball, but its clearly not getting through to Wilson. I cant stand Tiki and hes burned alot of bridges, but maybe they should consider the idea.

    Mr Wilson,
Forget about comments, articles, ESPN, or any other media source. Grow yourself some thick skin and secure that rock. As a Giant fan I can assure you that we have not given up on you by no means–it was a tough game–lots of mistakes made several players on both sides of the ball–wasn’t just you. Leave twitter alone and let the talking heads do the writing. Play ball.

  88. ggbblue says: Sep 11, 2013 9:56 AM

Too many “Me’s” in that tweet. This kid is pretty immature and self-centered. Instead of owning his horrible performance and focusing on what’s important, he tells paying customers and fans they don’t matter. Even worse, he’s doing it on Twitter? Take your quarterback’s lead and Man Up. As a matter of fact, learn how to freaking protect your quarterback too.

  89. cashisking4life says: Sep 11, 2013 10:04 AM

David wilson is such a bum! Hopefully he breaks his leg so je has a valid excuse for riding the bench. Last yr I drafted him and he was worthless fantasy wise until the last four games. This year he had a great preseason so I had him starting on most of my teams.
He cost me my games and now I have to listen to my friends talk smack till I play them again. Nothing like losing to the league noobs and rookies. Thanks again david wilson! Fantasy does matter! People got money and bragging rights riding on it. Oh yea zack sudfeld TE Patriots also a bum. Now I got wilson on my bench and he’ll probably have a good week. Lol

  90. Akula says: Sep 11, 2013 10:19 AM
