NFL says “miscommunication” led to RG3 being told to cover brace

Reuters

Robert Griffin III was told by a league official to cover his knee brace during Monday night’s game. But the NFL now says Griffin should not have been told that.

An NFL spokesman told CSNWashington.com that Griffin was told to cover his knee brace as a result of a “miscommunication”.

The spokesman said players have the option of wearing knee braces either inside or outside their uniform pants.

It’s not clear why a league official was telling Griffin to cover up his brace if that league official hadn’t bothered to learn the rules regarding players wearing braces. And it’s nor surprising that Griffin (who was previously hit with a $10,000 fine for wearing an unauthorized shirt) is frustrated.

But in the future, Griffin can wear his brace the way he wants.

  1. I thought it was a league-wide rule that all leg braces are covered…you see lineman all the time with knee braces under the socks and pads, why should RG3 be allowedfollow different rules then everyone else?

    Roses are red
    Violets are blue
RG3 is an over-rated fad that the media overhyped and will lead the Redskins to 5 wins this season…

  3. I can’t believe a guy prepping for his first game after that kind of knee surgery is being pestered about his uniform by some league suit. Really? Is this football or America’s Next Top Model? Another moment of disbelief brought to us by our friends in the Commissioner’s office.

Rog, please just let the players play.

  4. Breaking News: Redskins fans blame the brace for their loss. If only that Brace was freely out in the open and not tugging on RG3’s pants and socks he would have played better.

  5. The uniform cop is like those rent-a-cops or a TSA agent who only has a high school (if that) education yet flashes his power like the gestapo.

  6. Is it me or does this guy seem to be a HAM in front of the camera??. Always fixing his hair and uniform, and walking around like he’s a hall of famer. ,!! Maybe someone should sit him down and explain what being a pro takes. Only my opinion. He is rusty and the way he runs around aimlessly, it looks like an injury waiting to happen. I’m not a fan of the read option.

  7. Maybe if he wasn’t constantly drawing attention to himself for stupid ish like violating the uniform policy, refs wouldn’t feel like they have to monitor his uniform.

  8. Someone mentioned RG3 “always fixing his hair”.

I agree. It bothers me too. I think an NFL QB plays better when they have nice short hair and no facial hair.

If you want to look good, go ahead and buy a new suit (see Adrian Peterson). But your focus should be on football 24/7. And someone who looks like Kyle Orton can’t look the way he looks and be focused on much of anything. Seriously, that guy looks like a bum. And Aaron Rodgers, when he has the Chi-Mo mustache plays worse than when he is clean shaven.

RG3, get a hair cut. Or at least stop fidgeting with it during post game interviews!

  9. It’s going to be so fun watching eagles fan disappear from this board, just like every year. Get that crap talking out now while you can Philly, we all know you will be back in your hole by the end of the season.

It’s hilarious to me when these eagles fans act like they didnt want to score more points….. Fact is y’all couldn’t. Skins defense had you figured out in the 2nd and rg3 knocked the rust off by the 3rd.. Giftwrapped turnovers, missed field goal, safety and you only won by 6.. Redskins will be fine… Peyton manning had to take a year off after his injury and then went 0-4 before his team started gelling. I see a lot of wishful thinking from a lot of haters on here! We love it

  10. Miscommunication? The official meant to say “Wear it however you want, Bob” but it came out “Cover that thing up or we’re gonna fine you.”

Makes sense. In a Goodell kind of way.

  11. Well have you had your fun yet haters? I was not surprised at the result, nor were most skins fans because most skins fans do not come on this site, so your thoughts of true skins fans are quite skewed, but that’s ok. I love to see the hate posts after only week one in the NFL. Hate to tell everyone this, but RG3 showed guts and is slowly rounding into shape as shown in the 2nd half 15-21, 160 yds, 2td’s. Did philly take the pedal off the gas?….I’ll let everyone be the judge but when the skins were sustaining drives the eagles d was getting gassed, as was their fast break offense. Anyone happen to see Vick limp. He will not last in this offense. Their protection schemes up front will not fly in the NFL. While Vick was slowing, RG3 got stronger which will be the case as the season continues. I’ll take my lumps for now, but this is very temporary until RG3 gets his legs under him (no pun intended) and becomes more confident mentally with his knee. I won’t shy away from the hater’s criticisms. Tough games the next 2 weeks, but this is the NFL. On any given Sunday, right jets fans? HTTR!!

  12. And what was with that intro for RG3 last night? That was ridiculous! That was really over the top. He’s not part of the team anymore, he’s just God?

What’s next? Arrive in a horse drawn chariot with angels scattering rose petals in front of him.

I know that wasn’t RG3’s idea but he sure did seem to suck it up.

  13. 6% of the season chumps, can’t judge who’s going to win a marathon by the 1.5 miles ran. You guys are weak sauce, half the NFL lost a game. Go troll somewhere else.

  14. If the NFL was this concerned about a knee brace, I wonder what big brother upstairs though of kapperkook’s massive headphones he decided to don at the post game press conference. Can’t seem to get it figured out…

  15. HAS ANYBODY SEEN ILOGICAL VOICE? SHOULD WE REPORT HIM MISSING? I HAVE A FEELING WE WONT FIND HIM UNTIL THE RED FACES WIN A GAME WHICH COULD BUT ANOTHER 4 OR 5 GAMES…..LMAO.

  16. Marketing spin: “miscommunication” = “league official doesn’t know what he is talking about and said something that is just totally wrong.”

Reading this was painful for me. Knowing how much you are truly hurting inside. I know this was a win… a division win… We destroyed you and after half time played preventive defense too soon THATS why you caught up. Lets not forget we gift wrapped you a touchdown when we ran down the field to the 5 and threw the backwards pass. We also gave you a fumble at the 30. So no excuses allowed here. McCoy Ran for 184 yards you figured nothing out. Out coached/Out Played… Denial…. Tear… Sad face.

Like oh sure, he went to Harvard.

  19. This is just your typical NFL back peddling in attempts to save face because of a nationally televised game in which the NFL front office showed its true colors and their gestapo micro management tatics to everyone.

RGMe is worthless and the R-Words won’t win 6 games this year…. #backtothebottonwhereyoubelong

Both of our teams have been at the bottom for a while, why can’t we just be happy for both our newfound successes? I’m not a fan of the Seahawks, or the Niners, or the Chiefs, or the Lions, yet I am a fan of cellar-dweller solidarity. people forget that it was only two years ago that San Fran was that upstart cellar-dweller “fluke” that should “go back to the bottom where they belong”. After their 2006 NFC Championship, the Seahawks slid quickly into near doormat status as well. When they won the division title in 2010 with a 7-9 record, the NFC West was the laughingstock of the league. Not anymore.

Can’t we just enjoy that the Seahawks, Niners, Redskins, and Falcons, (and possibly Vikings and Rams) are part of a changing of the guard in the NFC. We are the up-and-coming new elite of the conference– we should be looking foward to duking it out with each other over the next decade rather than making petty comments, because every one of these teams could legitimately told to get back to the “basement where they belong”

Don’t insult the Seahawks, Niners, and Falcons like that. Redskins are not the up-and-coming new elite team when they got spanked in their first game against a coach with NO NFL experience, all new coaching and personnel, players etc.. The eagles were supposed to be in re-build mode. But even in re-build mode we beat you. Elite? lol…. More like 3rd or 4th place in the nfc east like always.
