Russell Wilson says eyebrow bet with Colin Kaepernick “not real serious”

The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks will square off this week on Sunday Night Football on NBC in one of the premier matchups of the early season schedule. The teams aren’t particularly fond of each other. The head coaches don’t like each other, and both teams are among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl in February.

An extra layer of intrigue was added as the starting quarterback for each team supposedly entered into a bet where the loser would have to shave off an eyebrow if they don’t earn the victory Sunday night. However, that bet may not be completely set in stone after all.

Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson addressed the bet with Colin Kaepernick made in a promotional video for EA Sports on the Dave “Softy” Mahler show on 950 KJR-AM in Seattle on Tuesday.

“He’s going to have to shave off his [eyebrows],” Wilson joked.

Wilson then said the bet wasn’t truly something they took seriously but did say they may still provide some kind of payoff depending on who wins the battle of NFC West heavyweights Sunday night.

“It was more of just a friendly, joking around type deal. It’s not real serious. We’ll probably do something digitally. Something like that,” Wilson said.

Yes, but norcalmafia is taking it seriously and that’s all we really need to know.

  2. suspendingbj says: Sep 10, 2013 11:33 PM

Can’t say I am not really surprised to hear its not serious. Curious to hear Kap’s response. Expecting something along those lines. Still good to joke about though

    Ah, photoshop then.

Did you just ignore the part where he is visiting the children’s hospital on a weekly basis? This is something him and his wife do and the only coverage I have caught was local coverage here. Quality and classy dude -Seahawks couldn’t have a better face of the franchise.

  8. 49faithful says: Sep 10, 2013 11:53 PM

So you don’t have confidence in your team is what your saying? Just wondering cause I don’t hear My QB backing out like Rodgers did on last years bet with Alexs

  9. stevemo says: Sep 10, 2013 11:54 PM

Why bother if you’re not serious? Just man up and shave off the eyebrow. You know CK wouldn’t get away with this without a sh!tstorm.

  10. blackfootkiller says: Sep 10, 2013 11:55 PM

Nice of Russell to let Kaepernick of the hook…
    He looks goofy enough already!
    Go Hawks!

  11. anarchopurplism says: Sep 10, 2013 11:55 PM

All about hype these days. Intentions shift like the wind.

Kaepernick should come out & say: “I’m in for real. What, is he worried about losing?”

  12. aaroncurryisbust says: Sep 10, 2013 11:58 PM

You heard it here first, Fraudbaugh pulls a Mike Singletary and moons his team at halftime after getting dominated by the Seahawks.

  13. swaggyy says: Sep 10, 2013 11:58 PM

Its not real serious for Russell, because he knows he will not have to shave off an eyebrow after he blows out SF once again. It is serious for Kaepernick though on the other hand. Or should I say other eyebrow. Cause wow he’s gonna look dumb with one eyebrow lolololololololol

  14. thestrategyexpert says: Sep 11, 2013 12:06 AM

I love both of these QBs. Fun stuff.

These teams hate each other badly, both are almost identically made, physical enforce your will type of teams. The fans even hate one another. But cool that the qbs keep it a healthy non hate rivalry.

Excited about this match-up. I expect the seahawks to have their 3 missing defensive players that didn’t have last week. Good luck niners. Hopefully Kaep loses his eyebrow. Lol

  17. contra74isloosbuthole says: Sep 11, 2013 12:23 AM

Who cares either way? It isn’t one of our eyebrows. Oh heaven forbid my favorite teams QB is missing his eyebrow.

  18. dirtysouthniner says: Sep 11, 2013 12:29 AM

I wish fans from these teams represented them selves like these two qbs!!

  19. 16to87 says: Sep 11, 2013 12:31 AM

Well, well, well… look who blinked first. Wilson literally can’t see eyeball to eyeball with Kap.

  20. wilsonwillbreaku says: Sep 11, 2013 12:34 AM

    Wilson > Kaepernick

  21. zoneread says: Sep 11, 2013 12:34 AM

Looks like Russell Wilson doesn’t want to lose an eyebrow

  22. alldonesmith says: Sep 11, 2013 12:38 AM

Disappointed. I thought this would be awesome and hilarious, no matter who had to pay up.

  23. scmems07 says: Sep 11, 2013 12:47 AM

Aww, these hardcore rivals are bff’s, man this shehawk-whiner matchup is so intense! Can’t you feel the love!

We are going to bring in two young qb’s, stick them behind the best o-lines, give them the best run games and make sure they have the best defenses but when it comes down to it, we will give them all the credit, that way we can market them and make tons of money.

  24. mackcarrington says: Sep 11, 2013 12:58 AM

The QB’s may not have made a serious bet, but the stupid, dumb, ignorant, meathead fans want so bad to believe that it was serous.

  25. bigcali4life says: Sep 11, 2013 1:02 AM

So pretty much like the Aaron Rodgers and Boyz II Men bet from last year? Which Rodgers still has yet to put on that 49ers Alex Smith jersey.

I have a feeling their Madden character will lose an eyebrow for a week only.

    Empty bets blow.

  26. sdelz says: Sep 11, 2013 1:14 AM

softy mahler is a jerk…the last thing any respectable sports fan would want to do is believe anything he writes or says…clueless and obnoxious

  27. wininer says: Sep 11, 2013 1:18 AM

As much as I hate, despise, loath and can’t stand the Seadderall Cheathawks and especially their fans, I think it’s kinda cool that our QB’s seem to be friends.

  28. gohawks89 says: Sep 11, 2013 1:21 AM

kaeperpukke will look even more like a total freak Mongoloid after he shaves his brows

  29. loyalraven says: Sep 11, 2013 1:29 AM

Weak. Joe Flacco would shave off all 3 of his eyebrows

  30. calibear831 says: Sep 11, 2013 1:30 AM

I’m not a fan of any of these teams, the bet was the only reason I was looking forward to the game

  31. kmkhaine says: Sep 11, 2013 1:55 AM

So… Two middle-weights make a middle weight bet.
Let us know when you kids are serious.

  32. sportymorty22 says: Sep 11, 2013 1:59 AM

This is disappointing haha… I was hoping it was true. Would have made the game even more intense.

  33. sirsupersouthern says: Sep 11, 2013 2:26 AM

    MDS called it…

  35. whatwhat2013 says: Sep 11, 2013 3:02 AM

No eyebrow shaving in the NFL. They just got the memo.

  36. rtwoj says: Sep 11, 2013 3:49 AM

Why, Russell… what a great back peddle you have.

  37. killxswitch says: Sep 11, 2013 5:50 AM

LAME. Just do it, it’s only an eyebrow.

  38. norcalmafia says: Sep 11, 2013 5:51 AM

So the Shehawk fans are going to try and break the Giness world record for noise Sunday..Well at least theyll have another banner to hang next to that lame #12 banner in those empty rafters..What a lame fanbase and sorry team.

I also heard at the gate they’re giving out free flannels with subaru logos stitched in and a B Bosworth poster…

    Legendary franchise right there folks.

  39. thegonz13 says: Sep 11, 2013 6:02 AM

Sounds like someone who is really worried about losing his eyebrow…

  40. ridingwithnohandlebars says: Sep 11, 2013 6:32 AM

Come on Russell, don’t be a Rodgers.

  41. bigks77 says: Sep 11, 2013 6:56 AM

Seems like Russell is already back pedaling and knows a loss is in the horizon!!!

  42. mattsffrd says: Sep 11, 2013 7:30 AM

    Wilson’s already backing out! Wuss!!!

  43. greyhawk9 says: Sep 11, 2013 7:34 AM

Just have Kaepernick wear a Seahawks hat… I’m sure he already has one to match his blue and lime green kicks

  44. learysdisciples says: Sep 11, 2013 7:35 AM

Should be a straight razor to the pubes instead.

  45. thehuckster404 says: Sep 11, 2013 7:40 AM

  46. seattlesue427 says: Sep 11, 2013 10:21 AM

That’s too bad…I was looking forward to seeing Kappy with only one eyebrow! If he’d just shave the goatee too, he wouldn’t look so much like the devil.

  47. chunkydonkey says: Sep 11, 2013 10:52 AM

Don’t worry. Flacco has enough eyebrow for everyone.

Didn’t the 9ers get fined and lose draft picks for circumventing the salary cap (also known as cheating)? Don’t cast too many stones.

  49. musclecbt says: Sep 11, 2013 1:07 PM

Russ, you may be a great talent, but you’ve damaged any respect you were looking for as a competitor. Mean what you say and say what you mean the first time or just look look a boy among men. A man values his own word–and doesn’t reach for the PhotoShop, fer Chrissakes!

  50. dacktle49 says: Sep 11, 2013 1:38 PM

I Cannot wait for the 9ers to shut all of your delusional homers mouths Sunday night!
