Much of the focus on the end of the Jets’ 18-17 win over the Buccaneers centered on Tampa linebacker Lavonte David’s personal foul in the final seconds that put the Jets into position for a game-winning field goal.
Less attention has been paid to the guy who made the field goal. That changed on Wednesday, however, when Nick Folk was named the AFC special teams player of the week.
Folk’s 48-yard kick with two seconds left on the clock gave the Jets the victory in Geno Smith’s first game as the team’s starting quarterback and was one of three field goals that Folk made over the course of the afternoon. The game-winner was Folk’s fourth since joining the Jets and it is the third time he’s been honored as the best special teams player of the week.
Broncos punter Britton Colquitt and Texans kickoff returner Keshawn Martin were named honorable mentions by the league.
