The New England Patriots carried a 10-point lead into halftime at Foxborough, but missed opportunities have kept the margin a reasonable one for the road team led by a rookie quarterback.
Inexperienced wideouts have contributed to Tom Brady completing only 11 of 24 passes, for 136 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Aaron Dobson, who scored the only touchdown of the game, has dropped two other passes. Rookie Kenbrell Thompkins failed to secure what would have been an impressive diving touchdown catch.
And someone pissed off St. Thomas of San Mateo late in the second half, apparently by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Jets rookie Geno Smith hasn’t fared much better, but he seems to be holding his own despite constant pressure from the Pats. Chandler Jones has picked up two sacks, and Smith seems to be regularly on the run. In the first half, Smith completed seven of 16 passes for 94 yards.
