Revis says he’s not 100 percent

Lost in the dysfunction regarding the quarterback position is the reality that Tampa’s prized offseason acquisition isn’t where he wants to be.

Asked by caller on WDAE’s Darrelle Revis Show whether he’s 100 percent, the guy after whom the program is named was candid.

“In due time, I’ll get stronger with my wind and my legs,” Revis said, via  “I didn’t go through training camp.”

Revis is recovering from a September 2012 ACL tear, and he had limited work in preseason practices.  He appeared in no exhibition games.

His comments illustrate the importance of preseason to preparation for Week One.  Last year, it took Vikings running back Adrian Peterson several weeks to get rolling after tearing an ACL in December 2011.  And we saw how rusty Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III was when he debuted on Monday night.

So, yes, if a guy isn’t going to participate in the preseason, it’ll take some time to get up to speed when the real games start, primarily since the player will be facing guys who have done a lot more to get ready for the season.

Or maybe Revis is simply trying out the ol’ rope-a-dope on the Saints.

    100% selfish.

Revis’ answer to that question depends on how he did last week and/or who he plays this week. Get burned? Grab a hammy before the TD signal goes up. Elite QB coming in, say you are not 100% That way if he does well he looks like a gritty hero for playing through the pain and if he does poorly, well it wasn’t really his fault. BTW, history shows he isn’t really a fan of preseason anyway. This year isn’t much different although he did/does have a legitimate injury.

He’s just rationalizing why he can’t cover as well as did in the past. Truth is he’s getting old.

So… Sherman is the best now? Say yes, Revis. Just say yes.

  16. raiders85 says: Sep 12, 2013 9:21 PM

He knows he’s absurdly over rated and he’s hanging on dearly to his 15 minutes because he knows it’s about to come crashing down the media made him and it’s over

What Revis is saying is he’s not completely in game shape. If you watched the Jets game he locked down his guy when he was in there, but had to come off the field frequently to get his wind back. You are reading too much into it if you think the knee isn’t OK or that Revis is going to have a problem covering the Saints receivers when he’s on the field.

    Revis is a joke.

The catastrophic doom that awaits the bucs if they don’t beat the saints is palpable.
    They need this win.
Unfortunately the opponent is very powerful, and will present many challenges.
First of which is the pass defense. There really is no stopping Brees, only containment is possible.
Only a handful of games has left Brees without dominance, even in defeat.
The bucs have always played the Saints tough, as all do in the South.
The key will be the running game. Mark my words.

Revis got a little winded Sunday, been a while since he’s played, and that is somehow a problem? People kill me. He played well. His knee is fine, the main concern, and he answers a call honestly. You could see he isn’t in 100% football shape but his skills are there. What fool of a fan wouldn’t want a 95% And rising Revis on his team? The Bucs have problems and Revis isn’t one of them. It too bad he can’t play QB as well, and block, and rush the passer, and coach….

  26. jrock1314 says: Sep 13, 2013 12:09 AM

Other than bitter/suicidal Jets fans and a few crossover Rays fans in Tampa, who cares he is in NFL obscurity playing with the Bucs….

  27. spedman24 says: Sep 13, 2013 7:34 AM

Love how Revis plants the seed that “he isn’t healthy”, as he enters the part of the schedule where he won’t be facing a rookie QB w/zero talent at WR….Revis will clearly show flashes, but will never ever be anywhere nearly as good as he used to be…

  28. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Sep 13, 2013 9:53 AM

Hard to see what strategic advantage can come with a shutdown corner openly admitting his play is compromised.

  29. officialgame says: Sep 13, 2013 12:20 PM

The man worked extremely hard on his rehab but happens to play a position that makes coming back difficult. He probably won’t be 100% this season and may never be what he once was. I just don’t understand all the hate?
