Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill is smart enough to know he needs to get the ball to Mike Wallace.
He’s also smart enough to not telegraph his intentions.
Tannehill said that even after Wallace’s frustrations last week, he wasn’t going to overcompensate to get the ball to the team’s big-money acquisition.
“I’m going to play the quarterback position the way coaches install the plays; I’m going to go through the reads just like they install it,” Tannehill said, via Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post. “We’re going to try to get him the ball when he’s in the play, but we’re not going to force him the ball.”
While Wallace tried to deflect his anger, saying he was simply mad at himself for a bad performance, his “Ask coach,” volley Sunday speaks to a different frustration.
Not an unusual one, just a different one.
“Mike was obviously in a tough spot at the end of that game but everything is 100 percent normal in the locker room,” Tannehill said. “He’s great, practicing hard every day, joking around. He’s his same old self. He’s looking forward to getting back on the field this week.”
And if Tannehill wants to keep the locker room peace — not to mention add a needed dimension to the offense — he’ll make sure Wallace is involved more.
