Toe injury keeping Jermichael Finley out of practice

The Packers will try to avoid an 0-2 start against the Redskins this weekend and they may have to do it without tight end Jermichael Finley.

Finley did not practice on Wednesday because of a toe injury suffered when 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis came down on his foot and the team doesn’t expect him to practice on Thursday either. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Finley went to Minnesota to get treatment earlier this week and the team hopes he can practice on Friday and play in the game.

Finley said Wednesday that rest is the best thing for his toe, but that he’s still aiming to play.

“I’ve got the mentality that I want to play,” Finley said, via the team’s website. “I don’t have it in my mind that I want to sit down Sunday. We have four days until Sunday, so if it’s up to me, I’m going to be out there.”

Finley hasn’t missed a game since the 2010 season. Andrew Quarless would be the next man up for the Packers at tight end.

Finley isn’t the only injury concern in Green Bay. Left guard Josh Sitton missed Wednesday’s practice with back trouble, which he said was better than the previous two days but not good enough for him to be certain of his status.

  1. Finley and Sitton will play and hopefully Burnett will be good to go….the middle of the field was way to wide open against the Niners.

Packers are not going to start 0-2…book it!

  2. finley better play sunday, the packers aren’t paying him 8 mil to sit on the bench. not only had he play, he better catch whatever is thrown to him.

  3. the 2nd string could play for the packers and beat that horrid 4skin team……4skins r headed for a 4-12 season looking at their schedule and the cellar.

  4. At least we get what is essentially a bye week against a practice squad.

Eddie Lacy ends the streak of GB backs not having a 100 yard game, goes for 125 and two scores.

    Packers 31, Redskins 21

  5. Initially, I didn’t think Finley had any “mentality”, but then saw he was smart enough to go to Minnesota for treatment.

I actually like the RG# matchup in this one…..27-24……Crosby misses one at the end of the 4th to NOT put it into OT…….BOOK IT, roid boy!!!!

  7. 1. Funny how he had to go to Minnesota to have something as major as his toe worked on…. I guess someone has been paying attention to the Packers training staff’s track record.

    2. How does a stepped on toe compare to an arm bruise? is that better or worse or what?

    3. How about you just hope Lacy can gain at least 3 y/c before you start talking about a 100 yd game. Baby steps and all…..

  8. Sitton had his worst games in years vs. SF; maybe he was hurt then too. Having Finley would be best but if not someone else will have to do the work. Nelson, Cobb and Jones against what Wash. is using for CBs? I like those matchups a whole lot. Pack should cruise in this one if they get any kind of decent play at the S position.

Why don’t you worry about Peterson getting 15 yards on 17 carries against one of the worst defenses in history?

1-15 for the Vikes, and you know it, too.
