49ers’ Alex Boone would like to punch Clay Matthews in the face

Colin Kaepernick AP

The NFL fined Packers linebacker Clay Matthews $15,000 hitting 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, but 49ers guard Alex Boone would have preferred handing down a different punishment.

Boone said that if he had his druthers, he would have taken care of Matthews by coming with some knuckles.

Probably punch him in the face,” Boone said, via CSNBayArea.com. “I don’t want his money.”

The 49ers haven’t made any secret of the fact that they don’t like Matthews. The rest of us can only hope we get to see the 49ers and Matthews square off again in the playoffs, as this is quickly becoming one of the NFL’s most heated rivalries.

  9. afcdomination says: Sep 13, 2013 8:13 PM

it was a late hit, but he did launch about as he stepped out, he got fined, Staley stood up for his QB and took care of business. Harbaugh spoke on it when he shouldn’t have, Mathews went ahead and apologized IMMEDIATELY after the game, calling it “stupid”.

Let it go 49ers. he didn’t go at his legs, to me, that is the true screw you, but to have a late hit that isn’t to the head or to the legs? Im sorry, I just don’t think it deserves 5 days of crying.

and I respect the 49ers, I just think this is wimpy

Between Ndamukong Suh, Cortland Finnegan and Clay Matthews, the NFL has got to figure out how to standardize their Fine process. It’s all over the place and lacks any real reason whatsoever.

And before the Suh Haters chime in, Finnegan has the most personal fines of any of these guys. Makes no sense at all, really.

Clay talked all week about how they wanted to hit Colin and when he couldn’t do it in the ordinary course of the game he decided to hit him any way he could – illegally. If you were one of Kap’s o-lineman you’d be pissed too. It has nothing to do with whining. They are just letting it be known that they aren’t going to tolerate crap like that.

I understand having your qb’s back. I really do…but San Francisco has a massively important game in two days and they are STILL talking yang about a hit that occurred in a game they won 5 days ago…

I think they better focus a tad more on Seattle, last time they were there they were taken to the woodshed.

It was an illegal hit. Acknowledged with contrition by Matthews.

Kind of amazing that so many people here don’t get it. It’s not like they’re calling a press conference so they can talk about Matthews. This has got to be one of the most overblown stories in recent years in the NFL. Where are the people bitching about Suh actually attempting to possibly end another players career last week? To whoever said the 49ers are feeding this crap, you are absolutely correct. I agree with filthymcnasty1……”Kaepernick nearly died” :) It was such a nasty hit because Matthews is such a strong and intimidating player! Except for the part when Staley locked him up and almost picked him off the ground..that looked pretty funny.
Oh yeah, and Matthews, when you tell the world that you are an awesome player (which, btw I sincerely think you are) it sounds very insecure. Others call you “awesome”, you shouldn’t call yourself awesome. Just like the niners call you a very good player.

  74. nickynick04 says: Sep 13, 2013 9:14 PM

The 49ers had two players fined in the game. Ahmad Brooks was fined $12,750 for a roughing-the-passer penalty on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And wide receiver Anquan Boldin was fined $7,875 for a hit at the sideline on Green Bay’s Jarrett Bush at the end of a play on which Kaepernick gained 15 yards on a scramble in the third quarter.

This is really lame. A couple of years ago, Mathew’s hit on Kaepernick wouldn’t have gotten a drop of ink in the sports pages.

And on top of that, grandstanding for the press doesn’t require Boone to actually do anything but talk. He should offer to meet Mathews in a ring or a cage for 5 rounds, proceeds go to a youth center or other kid’s charity. My money would be on Mathews. Speed and conditioning wins every time, and twice on Sunday.

Boldin’s was more of a shove and Brooks wasn’t nearly as bad as Matthews. Matthews got off easy with this “slap on the wrist”.

  81. jimthebuilder27 says: Sep 13, 2013 9:39 PM

Good God, can this team ever move on?

Matthews acknowledged it wasn’t smart on his part, he didn’t deny it was a late hit. He took responsibilty, unlike Suh who’s trued to lawyer his way out.

McCarthy was right, the team is staying above Harbaugh’s comments. The Forty-Whiners aren’t, and they’re still seeing Matthews in their dreams at night!

Kind of amazing that so many people here don’t get it. It’s not like they’re calling a press conference so they can talk about Matthews. The media will ask them a question and they tend to answer how they feel (unless you’re Bill Belichick)…. The 49ers are not obsessed with GB. They simply own that team.

Prior to the last 3 games, the niners were 1-13 against the Pack going back to 96′ and would have been 0-14 had there been replay in 99′ to correctly award The Packers Rice’s fumble. Smith was 1-2 against them and you as many Lombardi’s in that time period as the Vikings. So if 3-0 in the last 3 is your definition of success, then congratulations! See you in January where your name name guard will be eaten for lunch by Clay!

  86. gbpack81 says: Sep 13, 2013 10:01 PM

You can tell this team has taken on the personality of their coach.

Hyper sensitive, insecure….the guy spends most of his time complaining and exaggerating every little thing through harbaugh colored glasses.

Good team, good players….but mentally…this team is beyond weak and its due to the guy that’s been whining in NFL since 87.

Every superbowl winner usually faces extreme adversity throughout the year. If they are handling this ONE play that happened during a WIN this poorly(and this early in the year I might add)….then they are destined to fold

Its why John has never won a major championship and never will.

Clay matthews is irrelevant to this formula, this is all Jim’s seriously flawed attitude and his troops have caught the Jim Harbaugh cancer. Best of luck this year!

  87. kevjones75 says: Sep 13, 2013 10:13 PM

Since the 49ers were GBs whipping boy from 1995-2010, they have a lot of pent up aggression. I really find it amusing that they are still raving about this game, even though it happened a week ago. Haven’t heard a peep from Packers camp. I guess the Niners have a chip on their shoulder. Hopefully the Packers get the last laugh on this one. Probably won’t happen though as long as Capers, Thompson and McCarthy are there though. Packers need to plunder the 49ers staff like they did in the early 90s.

I understand you are a bit soft in the Bay area, but this is tackle football.

It is quite obvious many did not even watch the game….Matthews dominated. He had 3 tackles for loss, 8 tackles total, 2 QB hits and 1 sack.

It was a late hit, but took on more significance than it normally would because Matthews said prior to the game he was targeting Kaepernick. He also used the term “fake offense” about the read option. I think he didn’t come across well there. He got humiliated in that playoff game and didn’t give proper credit to the opponent. He is a good player and I think the whole thing would not have amounted to that much had he not said what he did leading up to the game.

Sure the niners have beat the packers the last few times but how many times have we won before that? Also let me know when the core players currently in San Fran have won a Super Bowl… They should have a decent team by now it’s about freaking time!! Shouldn’t the 49ers be focusing on the Seachickens rather than the one “controversial” hit from last week?

The 49ers, like their HC, pick fights with everyone.

First their rivalry was with the Saints.

Then when they faced the Lions mid-2011, followed by the handshake, they were all antagonistic towards Detroit.

    Then it became Seattle.

    Now it’s Green Bay.

It’s just not the way a Super Bowl winning team goes about business. Think of all the great teams of the past, it was never about someone else, just themselves.

Maybe they had one arch-nemesis they liked to trade barbs with, but 4? Who’s next?

My money is on the Rams. ‘Justin Smith says Jake Long is cheap and can’t block him. “I’d love to take him up on it after the game. I hate the Rams. I want you to tell the Rams I hate them, almost as much as New Orleans, Detroit, Seattle and Green Bay.’

Please fine this idiot and make an example out of him that you do not condone violence outside of the game itself.

2nd for you people saying he had to hit him because he couldn’t in the field of play… um didn’t he have 2 sacks in the game or did they give the first one to the other guy that also hit him.

3rd It wasn’t a dirty hit in the first play he launched while he was still in bounds how many people with the ball turn it up the sidelines when the get there should he have waited to jump and not made the play if he tried that? He did not go high to the head or low to the knees or ankles he hit him in the chest. He was also only one step out of bounds watch the tape 80% of the time one step out of bounds is not flagged.

This shows how the leadership structure works in SF top to bottom. Classless whining and non-stop talking through the media (rather than face to face like men) about punching from those who have had DUI’s and past fights they’ve lost. Just classless.

Sure they’re a good team and beat GB a few times in a row… but GB always wins the wars. In a year your QB and a few others will command huge contracts and the roster will be forcibly different and with less talent… so enjoy it while it lasts and pray you don’t choke again

  158. kwwkkwwk says: Sep 14, 2013 9:27 AM

And let’s not forget that Matthews could have hit him and forced him into the ground much harder on that particular play.

First off Boone is a DRUNK. It is well documented on police records/

Harbaugh called out CMIII for his late hit on his QB…..Rodgers was hi late and the player was fined by the league….not a peep from Harbaugh and Anquin s late hit penalty which was out of bounds he was also fined not a PEEP out of the cry baby whining Harbaugh

    Stay Classy Niners
againa ” HEY BOONE GO HAVE A DRINK, YA DRUNK ” and go punch Clay in the face the next time you see the Packers….if not YOU ARE A PUNK a DRUNKEN Punk

  163. smedley61 says: Sep 14, 2013 10:19 AM

Wow, this is hilarious! They are absolutely obsessed. I see a big loss coming tomorrow against Seattle because they can’t shake the Green Bay thing. If I’m Seattle, I’m jacked. If this is how they react because they got banged around against Green Bay, wait for Seattle.
In terms of Matthews being a dirty player, he’s been fined three times now in his career. The other two times – once for a face mask on Jay Cutler. And once for wearing the wrong shoes. Harbaugh is a whiny baby just like he was in his underachieving career as an NFL quarterback. Sounds like the career path of a dirty player to me.

  164. nflgerry says: Sep 14, 2013 10:40 AM

It might be a heated butt-kicking but when one team shreds the other team’s defense so badly, it’s hardly a rivalry.

  165. nflgerry says: Sep 14, 2013 10:46 AM

I wish the fools would quit saying that Matthews launched himself when Kaepernick was still in-bounds. The fact of the matter is that Matthews launched himself out-of-bounds. The only place he was going to hit anyone was out-of-bounds. He even admitted that it was “a dumb play” (read: dirty). So quit with the foolish statements about the QB being in-bounds.

Sober up Alex! You are making a fool out of yourself! Oh wait too late

  167. axespray says: Sep 14, 2013 11:41 AM

I remember when Julius Peppers popped Rodgers out of bounds… was their whining?

Nah, Rodgers just got right back up and continued playing – the team didn’t whine or anything, they just kept playing.

One little hit and you’ll never hear the end of it from the whiners… smh. Someone might want to inform them that it’s football, there’s hitting in football.

    sissys.

  168. wheezerswin says: Sep 14, 2013 12:17 PM

How very 49’er of him. Just like their coach. If teams show up to actually play the 49’ers and not just roll over and let them win, they get all upset. Poor babies. Did that mean ol’ clay Matthews push you? Here is a tissue to wipe the tears. The nerve of those Packers thinking they would actually try to win the game.

  169. rondayne33 says: Sep 14, 2013 12:43 PM

    Wisconsin77,

They’re not “infatuated” at all. I believe it was the Pack who was talking all the smack leading up to the game last week. Then the only way they could follow it up was a cheap shot hit out of bounds. I’m sure you’d be crying if it was Aldon Smith who laid that hit on Rodgers.

    Oh by the way…34-28….SCOREBOARD

    Loll @themagicfanguy,

You mean you count those 8 throwaway titles before the NFL became the NFL? Take them.

Just remember that your current team still can’t find a way to beat the Niners.

13-5 Packers. The only stat that counts.

If you really want to play it that way, the Niners haven’t won a title since the NFL reached its current number.

You probably aren’t old enough to remember the last time the Niners won the whole deal, just lost it.

    Help me understand, niner fans

Harbaugh cries when Matthews said they would hit the QB when he runs a Read Option. But tries to call Matthews out for not being tough.

Kap says “you better have a better plan than intimidation”, then this nobody says he’d rather punch Matthews in the face.

Matthews hit QB late, aggressive penalty, stupid play, but far from dirty, yet two other 49ers get fined for late hits.

I have never seen a team with so much talent, yet does so much to warrant zero respect. At least when Seahawks fans talk tough, they’re ready for a fight. Niners fans talk tough, then whine when they get hit.

    Where’s yours then?

  179. GenXJay says: Sep 14, 2013 6:45 PM

Boone could always buy a FatHead of Matthews.
But, then that would be contributing to Clays supplemented income. (since cheesebay is cheap)

Used to respect the niners. Now I can see they’re just a bunch of little girls. Why they didn’t win the Super Bowl, and why they won’t under Harbaugh.

    Crybaby’s a choke.

He was a choke as a player.

He was a choke at Stanford.

And now he’s a choke at the 40 whiners.

    What a beat down.

    6 whole points.

    At home.

What was the SCOREBOARD the last time the 40 whiners played at Seattle?

  182. trapshoot says: Sep 14, 2013 10:15 PM

The whiners are getting the same disease their coach has. Grow up gentleman.

  183. hornhead says: Sep 14, 2013 11:22 PM

You’ll not find a person in here who hates the 49ers more than I do (I was hating them before Clay Matthews was even alive) but both teams have to have beaten each other recently for two teams to be involved in a rivalry.

The 49ers have won their last three matchups.

    Not a rivalry.

  184. clayminator says: Sep 18, 2013 9:49 AM

Packers have won 17 of the last 18 within the NFC North Division and we still call it a rivalry?

  185. joeyinzer says: Sep 18, 2013 12:59 PM

Clay Matthews is a hell of a player but he comes across as an arrogant prick. I can see why people would want to punch him in the face.
I’ll give him credit though, he gets into the opponents head.

  186. clemenza58 says: Sep 20, 2013 1:54 PM

The 49ers should have been more concerned about punching the Seahwaks because they got pantsed on national TV last Sunday.
