Anthony Spencer “getting ready to play” on Sunday

The Cowboys gave defensive end Anthony Spencer the day off on Thursday, a planned break after his return to practice after a long spell on the shelf after undergoing knee surgery during training camp.

Spencer said Thursday that he plans to return to practice on Friday to see how his knee feels after the day off. There’s been no official word on Spencer’s status for this weekend’s game against the Chiefs, but Spencer said he’s “getting ready to play” and that his knee has responded well to getting back on the field thus far.

“This is the first week I’ve gone straight through without swelling,” Spencer said, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Spencer spent time with the second team on Wednesday and his snaps will likely be limited if he is given the green light to play against Kansas City. George Selvie handled the start in place of Spencer in Week One pretty well and would be positioned to remain in a fairly prominent role up front until Spencer shows that he’s in good enough condition to handle the lion’s share of the work up front.

Selvie has impressed me with his pass rush so don’t bring back Spencer until he is completely 100%. I don’t get the feeling that Spencer is ready to go just yet.

He needs to be in football shape before he hits the field.

Translation: wow, selvie is pretty good. If i dont get going fast, he might get entrenched as the starter, and then this franchise tag was a huge backfire

I don’t know how he guy did it without the constant statemens in the press and the “operation patience” T shirts.
