Raiders fullback Marcel Reece, who has become a key contributor in the offense in recent seasons, has signed a three-year contract extension with the club, the team said Friday.
The 28-year-old Reece entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2008. After a brief stop with Miami, he landed with Oakland. For most of the 2008 and 2009 seasons, he was on the Raiders’ practice squad. In 2010, he worked his way onto the Raiders’ roster, and he has started 31 regular-season games since.
Reece showed unique versatility in 2012, catching 52 passes for 496 yards and rushing for 271 yards on 59 carries. He even received regular work at tailback for a time because of injuries at the position.
In a statement released by the club, Reece expressed loyalty to the Raiders’ organization, late owner Al Davis and current owner Mark Davis.
“It’s another step to my goal — being a Raider for life,” Reece said. “I plan on playing for as long as God will allow me to. If it’s for a lot longer, I want it all to be with the Raiders.
“Al Davis believed in me more than I did myself at times, and it meant a lot to me. I take it to heart and I take it seriously. Mark Davis has loved me the same. I love the organization and I love the Raiders family.”
