Starks gets no NFL fine for flashing middle finger

When Dolphins defensive lineman Randy Starks missed the universal sign for “We’re No. 1!” by one digit, it was assumed he’d be making an involuntary contribution to the league’s fine fund.

Starks won’t be.  The veteran defensive lineman isn’t among the players who found out this week that their future paychecks will be a bit lighter.

But that doesn’t mean Starks won’t be fined at all.  The league views it as a team matter, which means that the team could choose to fine Starks.

Starks claimed he was “joking around with teammates” when flashing the finger to the Miami sideline, but he acknowledged that he shouldn’t have done it.

For their part, the Dolphins will neither confirm nor deny whether Starks was fined.  And all that that possibly implies.

In Japan it’s very common for people to use their middle finger to point at things. So maybe Starks is into Japanese culture and is pointing to the heavens.

I guess you have to play in a game that people actually watched like A.J. Hawk did to get fined for flipping the bird.

If you play in a game nobody watched it becomes a team matter.

At a Dolphins @ Saints game in 1995, I reminded Brian Cox of his two-butterfinger salute to Bills fans in Buffalo in 1993. Dude almost jumped into the stands and kicked my butt.

Stupid remark from Sidsme. How do you know no one watched that game, you have no clue. No one missed you, and I’m sure Randy didn’t.

….and why would flipping the bird be detrimental to the league? There should be zero dollars taken from this dude.

The NFL determined that Starks was justified and that Philbin, Ireland and Ross actually deserve worse.

Think about this for a second: Getting fined for raising a finger. It’s a finger!
