49ers’ Brooks fined for hitting Rodgers, Boldin fined for block

AP

Clay Matthews wasn’t the only one fined for an illegal hit during the Packers-49ers game.

In fact, 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks and receiver Anquan Boldin incurred fines that totaled more than the $15,000 Matthews was fined for his hit out of bounds on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Brooks was docked $12,500 for roughing Aaron Rodgers. Brooks was penalized on the play, and it was a costly penalty that helped the Packers move down the field on the drive that resulted in a touchdown just before halftime.

Boldin was fined $7,875 for a hit on Green Bay’s Jarrett Bush in the third quarter. Boldin drilled Bush with a hard block just as Kaepernick was running out of bounds, and although the officials on the field didn’t throw a flag, the league office reviewed the hit and ruled that it was late.

  1. Is this what footballs come to? Review every game after the fact and fine everyone… Two hand touch within four years… Our litigious society is killing us…

  2. Hey fellas – this game is ancient history now, it’s onto the next foe. After this week, GB and SF will be 1-1.

  3. If they ever start fining these guys for ‘holding’, every linemen in San Fran on both sides of the ball will be broke!

  4. The NFL is way off base when it comes to fines. They should fine ONLY plays that are obviously dirty and planned/willful disobedience. THAT’S IT!

Accidents happen. There is a huge difference between getting there late and trying to take someone out after the play. One should get a fine and the other should not. EVERY personal foul does not warrant a fine.

Can’t wait to hear Harbaugh whining about these fines…
    =============================

I think you may have to wait a while. There are so many other things that he is not done whining about. He’s got a looooong to go through before he gets to this.

  6. Now let’s see if the Packers coaching staff and players go off on Brooks the way the 49ers cried about Matthews for the last week. Make the whiners earn the lowest class team in the NFL.

  7. Matthews hit was late and deserved a penalty. Boldins block was late, needless and dirty but no penalty? Those refs should be docked with – no flag but the player gets fined!

  8. No dog in this fight, but from reading posts about this game, I’m not sure that Green Bay fans should be saying anything about another fan base being whiners.

  9. Look at it in perspective though….

If Rodgers and/or Brady, the pretty boys of the NFL, are even looked at “meanly” by defenders, the roughing flag comes out. Maybe we can fit them for flags this week?

Conversely, Vick, Cutler and RGIII can be slammed to the turf w/o a flag. So, every week there are punitive actions against the Packer and Patriot defenders from the previous week. No news here.

The only team and fans who legitimately get screwed on these roughing calls are the Raiders.

  10. I love any comment about Jim Harbsugh “Whinnig” or players playing dirty. It’s the coaches job to defend his players on & off the field. That’s what coaches are suppose to do, argue calls, with the refs, get inside the refs head and the league officials for future calls. About ” playing dirty”, it’s FOOTBALL Late hits will happen, some punches with be thrown during the game. Those things happen evey game at evey level. It’s only dirty if someone is trying to seriously hurt someone. Plus the league will sort out any additional fines & punishment if needed to help keep the game under control. The things you are complaining about Harbaugh & the violence of the game is some of the main reasons why we love the game so much. If you don’t like it find a non violent sport to cheer for!

  11. I like how people leave comments on Harbaugh and the 49ers’ apparent “whining” … by whining about the 49ers on these posts.

    Whining within whining? #whinception

“Ha! See how good it is the Ravens traded Boldin???
//totally wish we had kept him.”

So because he BLEW UP a d back and got fined $7,875 of HIS money you wouldn’t want a receiver that had 13 catches for 208 yards and a TD!? HAHAHAHAHA Glad Trent Baalke is the GM of the 49ers and NOT “Flacccodelic” haha

  13. To some 49ers fans:

    3 feet = 5 to 7 yards

An drag down tackle = a clothesline or horse collar tackle

A defensive player claiming he will hit the QB prior to a game = premeditated planning of a dirty player

    Fact: Clay was wrong
Fact: He should have been fined

Will they apply their same twisted logic to these incidents? Was Rodgers hit 7 minutes and 34 seconds after the play? Boldin clearly planned his late hit as well right?

(FYI – Boldin trash taked after the hit just as Clay did to Kaep after the sack…it’s freaking football!)

“Pretty much sums up the current state of the NFL when the offensive player of the week is fined for the same game he was honored for.”

This doesn’t really make sense. If Clay Matthews had 6 sacks and 20 tackles but also took a cheap shot at Kaepernick when he was 85 feet out of bounds, He would be the defenseive player of the week and also be fined $50.

  15. These fines don’t deter the so called late hits. These guys are flying around tackling bumping etc. Those helmets restrict sound and vision. When you see a replay it is in slow motion. In real time these are split second decisions as to when to hold up in most cases. These close calls are out of hand. It’s all because the coaches and media crying about their Multi Million dollar premadona’s. Yes if its really late fine them. Mathews dived when Kapernick was at the end line, a split second took him out of bounds. The fines that should be levied are the ones for low blocks, head shots, pushing on guys heads to get up from the pile, stomping on people and when they blind side guys standing around.

  16. What do you think the odds of Harbaugh commenting on his own players being fined?

About the same as the Vikings winning the Superbowl, in other words, its never going to happen.

    ————————–

Completely agree. Cutler is a whiner, but he’s right. He gets hit way more often with no flags. Vick is the ultimate example. I sometimes wonder if it’s just his playing style, or if it is some kind of dislike of him because of his past. He was hit late last week at least 5 times with no flag…while in the pocket. I don’t see it as much with RGKNEE, but I’m sure it happens.

  18. Lets stop pretending that the only people whining here are Packer or 49ers fans. In fact there seem to be a lot of different teams fans that have chimed in on this game over the last week.

I see a lot of Packer and 49er fans defending themselves or their favorites teams or players. You want to call the whining then that’s your right but it doesn’t make you right.

Enough of the drama can we please move on now. Hopefully this is the last PFT article that mentions this week old news story and we can all get on with our lives.

    You’re a raider fan…shut it.

  20. These “fines” are getting out of hand. This is a sport. That is why we have refs. Let the calls be made and quit making the players hesitate to do anything for fear of losing part of their paycheck!

Make the penalties stiffer. Let the refs bench a player for the quarter / half / rest of the game for a penalty. Let the players actions have a direct effect against their team so they learn. A price tag is nothing, these guys make enough to say “Oh, 15K for a good late hit? No problem!” But if it was “sitting two quarters due to my late hit… umm, maybe I better not.” Let’s get this back to being a sport and not a financial chess game.

    “Whining within whining? #whinception”

So by your definition, aren’t you whining by leaving a comment?. Plus when you try to quote someone, get the quote right. Stop changing the words to benefit your childish comments!!!

  22. Good game Green Bay fan. Your team played a great game!! That game could have gone either way.

Personally as a true die hard 9ER fan. The 9ERS were fortunate to prevail with the win. Take away Green Bays turnovers & its a whole different game.

The Packers played strong!! No doubt

49ers= 3-0 vs. Packers in last 2 years. Pack fans can join the lions fans in the disgruntled section.
    ……………………………………………………………………………….

And nary a Superbowl win by the 49ers to show for it.

  24. WOW… Pack fans are so mad that theyve been slapped around 3 times in a row, you guys are rooting for the team that robbed you of a win last year and made your team walk off the field before the game was even over… you mad bro? …lmao!!!

  25. Not a fan of either team and I used to have a lot of respect for Green Bay however, if a Saints player had talked the way Matthews did before the game, threatening the QB, then “accidentally” put a late hit on the same for all the world to see, he would have been suspended. Green Bay are the “fair hair boys” of the NFL and Matthews (who I like) is playing smash mouth football that we all say we want but nonetheless looks a little suspect at time. Let’s face it, we can’t have it both ways and it’s not always possible to stop motion once it’s started. If we don’t want football as we know it to turn into a girls game then we should decide if we want smash mouth or flag which carries no guarantees. If a play is not flagged then a player should not be fined. Seems like the officials have made some serious mistakes already and I don’t hear about any of them being fined?

  26. With their never ending “Whineathon,” I imagine Thanksgiving at the Harbaugh’s house is almost unbearable. “But mom John always gets the last dinner roll” “No I don’t!” “Yes you do!” “You’re a roll thief!” “I know you are but what am I?” “This turkey is too dry!”

  27. You don’t hear 49er fans whining about these fines or the hits the way the Packer fans were doing non-stop incessantly about Clay Matthews’ completely dirty roid rage hit OUT OF BOUNDS.

Really the Packers have won 2 Superbowls since
    San Frans last one

  30. Its pretty funny all these people call 49ers whiners, but that all I hear from people in the comments section.

The 49ers should let it go, but you guys don’t. I remember the good ol’ days before the crybabys took over this website (pre-NBC). At least the 49ers are awnsering questions asked to them and not crying on the internet offering their opinions when not even asked.

As a 49er fan I love that our coach actually gives an honest opinion instead of the preset awnsers.

So keep up the whining about other people whining. Real classy!

  31. You 49ers fans had best be careful criticizing CMIII — after he’s done talking tough and wetting down his golden locks on the sideline, he might come after you and start another slapfight.

  32. is the NFL run by the Mafia now whats up with some of these dumb fines for one Boldin’s block was a clean block Brooks hit on Rogers was a love tap the NFL is getting ridiculous what are they going to do next fine offensive linemen for false start

  33. When is the last time the Dirty Whiners won a Super Bowl??

Well, I can remember the last time the GREEN BAY PACKERS won one…2011.

    NUFF SAID.

  34. I forgot to mention that the one loss in the last 20 years to San Fran before 2012 was that Playoff game where Jerry Rice fumbled, and Instant Replay was restored the next season.

  35. Don’t give me ancient history. Right now, the Niners have a better team than the packers. The Pack can not beat this current team. Live in the past if you want. 5 rings>4 rings. You lost again if you want to play that game.

  36. Sore losers… go away Cheese honks! Their will not be a rematch because the Packers will not make the playoffs.

  37. Boldin went helmet to helmet—not a clean block “aces”. He also pushed off on the 4th and 2 play—I can’t wait for the Packers to get a blown call to go their way when it really matters. I’ll laugh all the way to another Super Bowl parade on Lombardi avenue!

  38. Cheap and gutless? Really, golston and moss dont play for us anymore. Dont think the niners play dirty as much as harbaugh wants to know exactly what the rules are so he can use them. New stadium, good coach, solid roster, I think we’re good buddy!

    What’s better, 13 or 5?

    Yeah…

Also, the Pack proved they could beat the Niners. When it comes down to one last play, it’s anyone’s game.
