The Buccaneers released fullback Spencer Larsen and signed rookie cornerback Deveron Carr off the practice squad to fill the roster spot, the club said Saturday.
The 23-year-old Carr signed with the Bucs as an undrafted free agent this spring. He was a full-time starter in his final three seasons at Arizona State.
Carr saw playing time in all four of Tampa Bay’s preseason games before being waived as the club trimmed its roster to 53 players. However, the club re-signed him to its practice squad, where he remained until his promotion Saturday.
The Buccaneers signed the 29-year-old Larsen, a sixth-year pro, on Tuesday. The club’s starting fullback, Erik Lorig, missed Week One with a calf injury, but he has practiced throughout the week and is probable on the injury report.
The Buccaneers host the Saints on Sunday.
