Ex-Bear Henry Burris reaches 50,000-yard passing mark in CFL

Henry Burris

NFL fans may remember quarterback Henry Burris from his stints with the Bears and Packers more than a decade ago.

CFL observers, however, know him as one of the league’s key offensive players of the last 10 seasons.

On Friday night, the 38-year-old Burris exceeded 50,000 yards passing for his CFL career when he threw a second-quarter touchdown pass against Calgary, the club for which he starred from 2005-2011. Now a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Burris leads the CFL with 3,589 yards passing in 2013.

Burris is only one of five quarterbacks to reach the 50,000-yard mark, with Damon Allen, Anthony Calvillo, Ron Lancaster and Danny McManus the others.

Burris has played in six NFL games, all with Chicago in 2002. He made his lone start in the regular-season finale against the Buccaneers, who would shut out the Bears 15-0. The Bucs would go on to win the Super Bowl.

Hamilton (5-6) fell 26-22 to Calgary on Friday.
