Ian Williams has broken ankle

Williams Reuters

It didn’t look good when it happened.  And it isn’t good.

Per a league source, 49ers defensive lineman Ian Williams suffered a broken ankle when he was blocked low during the first quarter of Sunday night’s game between San Francisco and Seattle.

It was a legal block, but as NBC’s Cris Collinsworth said at the time, it shouldn’t be.

Williams has been replaced by Glenn Dorsey, a former top-five pick who joined the 49ers as a free agent in the offseason.

I knew Seahawks were gonna be taking cheap shots.

Even as a Seahawk fan you gotta hate seeing any player injured and season ending is even worse.

NFL needs to ban these cut blocks. Pouncey, Williams,…the list will grow each week until the NFL fixes it…

    “It was a legal block.”

    GO HAWKS!!!

  7. beastmode5150 says: Sep 15, 2013 9:58 PM

Hey niners fans, have you watched your line block? They, and all teams use that block.

  8. cliffordc05 says: Sep 15, 2013 10:05 PM

This type of block should be made illegal. Until it is it will be used and players will continue to be injured.

  9. albinorhino49 says: Sep 15, 2013 10:12 PM

The NFL is more worried about uniform infractions than real player safety.

  10. pgilbert2013 says: Sep 15, 2013 10:16 PM

It’s sad to see this type of play NWSeahawk guy, because in a moments notice it can happen to your guy. We all want to see the best players play ball.

Congrats on the legal play… Whoops karma just nipped at your ankles :-o

  11. peehergriphon says: Sep 15, 2013 10:17 PM

Dirty dirty. Just aim at the ankle and roll that fat arse. Hate the rule. NFL only protects offensive players

  12. blackhawks2010 says: Sep 15, 2013 10:18 PM

Legal block, man up Niners fans you crybabies.

Several generations of players who have faced Mike Shanahan’s cut blocking scheme agree with that statement.

  14. beastmode5150 says: Sep 15, 2013 10:43 PM

Still waiting to hear from a niner fan about how their players don’t cut block.

  15. chrisernst82 says: Sep 15, 2013 10:54 PM

“Legal block, man up Niners fans you crybabies.”

What comments are you referring to? Because not one person in the comments above yours said anything about being niners fans.

The only whining ive noticed is coming from cheap Pete. Following the refs around crying because he called a penalty and they wouldn’t throw a flag.

Im tired of these bandwagon Seahawks fans. Quickly becoming worst fans in all of sports. And with Boston still having 3 pro teams that is quite an accomplishment.

  16. sf546 says: Sep 15, 2013 10:55 PM

Later in the game….then why is only Niners suffering these injuries? Cheap shots from Seattle.

“Still waiting to hear from a niner fan about how their players don’t cut block.”

So pretty much you just wanna run ur mouth until someone argues with you. Thanks for proving my point in my above post.

At least donnymack seems to have some sense, maybe there is still hope for your fan base after all .regardless if its my favorite team doing it or not it shoudnt be allowed.

  18. sacaypaga says: Sep 15, 2013 11:03 PM

    Pete Carroll is a crybaby

  19. sacaypaga says: Sep 15, 2013 11:04 PM

    Pete, what’s ur deal!

  20. beastmode5150 says: Sep 15, 2013 11:04 PM

Good lord, not only his players, but the fans also take after Harbaugh. Whiiiiine. Have you noticed NBC cuts to harbaugh whining to refs about every play that doesn’t go right? Oh and feel free to let me know you guys don’t cut block, or illegally hold on the D line. We all want to see it in print.

  21. realitycheckbaby says: Sep 15, 2013 11:06 PM

    Cheap shots?

The shot on RW was exactly what your whining HC was complaining about. Not to mention the hit on the slide.

  22. realitycheckbaby says: Sep 15, 2013 11:08 PM

BTW, broken ankle > knee. He’ll be back for the playoffs with any luck.

    Good luck.

  23. rainponcho87 says: Sep 15, 2013 11:09 PM

bummer that they used the IR with return on Nick Moody already

  24. dezertdweller says: Sep 15, 2013 11:24 PM

No one is arguing the fact that unfortunately it’s a currently a “legal block” – it’s a horrible rule and needs to be eliminated!

  25. justsomerandomguy24 says: Sep 15, 2013 11:25 PM

It is pretty clear at this point that “player safety” just means “things that the NFL could get sued for in the future.”

Stupid penalty after stupid penalty. I’m a die hard 9ers fan but aldon is killing me with this can’t keep his $hit together garbage. He has to learn to walk away. Easily taunted.

  29. isphet71 says: Sep 16, 2013 12:16 AM

Hey, it’s totally legal and OK to block low and injure someone as long as it’s within 5 yards of the Line of Scrimmage.

    Right, NFL?

  30. joey49er says: Sep 16, 2013 12:39 AM

Beat the 49ers fair. Go game guys

  31. joey49er says: Sep 16, 2013 12:40 AM

49ers had 6 personal fouls called and 3 that were missed the blow to the head of Wilson on the slide Tate was picked up and slammed to the ground and gore threw a punch lol and I am an Eagles fan not a Seahawks fan at all

  34. hess97 says: Sep 16, 2013 1:19 AM

Collinsworth got it wrong. this was an illegal hit low to an engaged defender. getting used to these cheap hits in seattle #manningham12 #walker11 #kwilliams11

  35. hess97 says: Sep 16, 2013 1:21 AM

cut blocks are legal, BUT not when the defender is already engaged with a block up high.

Reid knocked himself out, and Davis pulled a hamstring.

  39. bigguy54 says: Sep 16, 2013 2:22 AM

A cheap shot is why VD hurt his hammy, and Reid really got hit with a cheap shot when he tried to make a tackle and buckled. SF 546, your team says Seattle fans are stupid, but then you make a post like this. I wonder who is the stupid one here? Thanks for the comment, we will see you in Dec, and hopefully you are all healthy, so you don’t have any excuses. I am sure you will find some though.

  41. afcdomination says: Sep 16, 2013 4:08 AM

Dorsey is just not a good player at that position. good luck with that, but Mike DeVito has been silent in 2 games as a chief, and fans are STOKED with him over Glenn, and Glenn wasn’t being asked to play nose tackle. I can’t imagine tiny glenn Dorsey on those broken down knees being the force in the middle of any defense.

still belongs in a 4-3, but can play 3-4 end, but 3-4 NT? cmon man. that is just sad.

Shehawks are a bunch of chumps. Cowards and villians are accurate description of how these guys play. It won’t last.
