Kai Forbath inactive; John Potter to kick for Washington

John Potter

Redskins placekicker Kai Forbath is inactive with a groin injury, leaving second-year pro John Potter to handle the kicking for Washington on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

The 23-year-old Potter has NFL regular-season kicking experience, as he kicked off 26 times for Buffalo in 2012. That said, he hasn’t attempted a field goal in the professional ranks.

Potter’s range on field goals remains to be seen. His longest field goal at Western Michigan was 45 yards, and he was 0-of-3 on field goals of 50 yards or longer. That said, half of his kickoffs a season ago went for touchbacks, so it’s clear he does have some NFL-caliber leg strength.

There’s also the matter of the weather in Green Bay. As we noted earlier, rain is in the forecast for Sunday’s game. How Potter and Green Bay’s Mason Crosby handle the conditions should they become challenging is yet another storyline to monitor on Sunday.
