The Chargers won 33-30 against the Eagles on Sunday and the news got even better for them after the game when coach Mike McCoy announced that wide receiver Malcom Floyd was “fine” after a scary moment when he took a blow to the head while trying to make a catch in the third quarter.
Floyd had his head down with Eagles safety Nate Allen on his back when he ran into DeMeco Ryans coming from the other direction. Floyd went down immediately and stayed down until he was stretchered off the field. Happily, Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego reports that McCoy said that Floyd checked out fine on tests at a local hospital after the injury.
“It was great for the organization to get a win for Malcom,” McCoy said.
Floyd was on his way to a monster day before getting hurt, catching five passes for 102 yards as part of Philip Rivers’ 419-yard explosion against an overmatched Eagles defense. With the win and the clean bill of health after it looked like Floyd could have been seriously injured, we imagine he’ll be satisfied with that half day of work.
UPDATE 5:46 p.m. ET: Gehlken adds that Floyd is expected to fly home with the team on Sunday.
