Newton off to awful start for Panthers

Cam Newton, Mario Williams AP

Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel at least has the benefit of being a rookie.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is just off to an ugly start.

The Bills hold what appears to be a commanding 3-0 lead over the Panthers thanks to Dan Carpenter’s 55-yard field goal, the peak of offensive excitement in Western New York today.

If the Panthers have decided what their offensive identity is, it’s hard to discern. After taking few shots downfield last week, there have been enough heaves, but Newton’s passing day is a combination of bad protection and some bad throws on his part. It’s almost as if they’re throwing long for the sake of it, rather than with a goal in mind.

Newton’s 7-of-17 passing for 79 yards with a ridiculous interception at the moment, and has missed high several times.

Josh Freeman and Cam Newton are not very good QBs. Trade for each other perhaps?

Some of this is on Cam for sure, but a lot is on the OLine and even more is on the terrible play calling. Gantt is exactly right, they are throwing deep just for the hell of it and it isn’t working at all. A couple drops and a few that weren’t close because Cam was hit as he threw.

Again, who knowingly hands over their offense to Mike Shula, especially when you hold interviews with Hue Jackson and Marty Mornhinweg as well. Ron Rivera should have been fired on the spot. As it is, this whole offense might need to be blown up because of the damage done when Rivera and his staff is finally shown the door.

And Cam just lead them right down the field for a TD with short and medium length passes and actual run plays. Crazy how that works.

Terrell Pryor is the real deal, Scam Newton is a fraud.

You’re kidding right? Cam hate doesn’t even come close to Sanchez hate.

At least Cam Newton has Steve Smith to throw to. Sanchez had no one the last two years.

Cam has been a disappointment, all talk no action, needs to sit on the bench for a while, maybe the # 2 can do better?
don’t want to see any more “Superman”

The difference is Cam is a good QB with a huge upside. Sanchez has always been terrible and keeps getting worse.
