Raiders win, but it was just the Jaguars

Darren McFadden (20), Geno Hayes AP

As conditional as it might be, it still counts.

The Raiders won a football game, beating the Jaguars 19-9 Sunday, to improve to 1-1.

Darren McFadden rushed for 129 yards, which was good, because quarterback Terrelle Pryor didn’t have the same kind of eye-popping numbers as last week. Pryor had 50 rushing, and just 126 passing.

But that was enough.

The Jaguars had 123 total yards when Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew left the game with a sprained ankle in the second quarter. Though they announced his return as probable, he did not return, and the Jaguars missed him.

They finished with 248 yards, and have now scored 11 points this season. Most of the yards and the offensive touchdown came late, well after the outcome was in question.

Henne with a Carson Palmer-esque 241 yards. All within the last 7 minutes of an out of hand game.

I’m sensing, Darin, that it irritates you when the Raiders win football games.

Good win Raiders. You did what you should do, against a team you should beat. But it is just the Jags, so don’t get too excited.

This post should have started with an apology for having to cover the Jags game because, somehow, the Jags are an NFL team.

  12. thenew013 says: Sep 15, 2013 7:47 PM

Hate to say this already but might as well find a team to “root for” while the jags stink it up. jk jk. We are hard to watch though.

Okay want proof this website and NBC hate the RAIDERS?
Last week Chiefs beat the Jags and this website headline is “Chiefs put on a great performance”
But Raiders beat the Jags and “is just the jags so who cares”
    Raiders DOMINATED the Jags.
What this website and ESPN,NFL NETWORK does not want you to know cause they are hoping you did not watch this game is The Raiders looked amazing especially on defense.
Raiders should be 2-0 the only reason why they are not is due to the refs last week not throwing a flag on the obvious holding when Andrew luck scored game winning TD.
Raiders could go and win the super bowl this year and this website and the others would say “This year does not count really”
This headline looks like a sore loser to me

  16. bucrightoff says: Sep 15, 2013 7:57 PM

I usually think its one of the worst arguments ever, but the Jaguars might be the exception to a college team being able to beat a NFL team.

Don’t want to hear it was “just against the Jaguars” did one of PFT writers say the Raiders roster was the worst in NFL history?

Raiders didn’t even play well – they should have won by 30.

  19. jakec4 says: Sep 15, 2013 8:06 PM

The Raiders are not a good team, but I still don’t see how they are even the second worst team. The media, and not just this site, proclaimed them as really awful, and won’t back down from it. They won today and hung with Indy last week. What about the Browns, Bucs, Panthers, and Redskins? The Raiders look better than any of them.

  20. keithdylan says: Sep 15, 2013 8:07 PM

Bengalguy clearly has no grasp on the English language nor reality for that matter. Let’s call this what it is…..a nice win but obviously should have gone that way. The Raider defense is much improved but it will be interesting to see what happens against Denver. I know this site (and especially this author) loves to hate the Raiders, like you think you’re the cool kid or something, but we could easily be 2-0 but we are far from the worst team in the league. Just win baby!

  26. orivar says: Sep 15, 2013 8:26 PM

Right now the Raiders are the third worst team in my opinion by watching them play.

The first and second is a very tight battle between the Browns & Jags.

They could always get Tebow as when you’re team sucks a ‘QB’ with legs at least makes it entertaining but you know. #EvenIfHesReleased

  27. jbaxt says: Sep 15, 2013 8:35 PM

Raiders only beat the Jags by 10, with their back-up Henne in and MJD out? At home no less?

Wow, good win, the question is how are you going to mess up the draft with the 2nd overall pick?

Your QB looks great with 100 yards passing and 50 yards rushing so a QB should be an option. Maybe get Carson Palmer to come back?

    Too soon?

  28. tatum064 says: Sep 15, 2013 8:38 PM

They only turned the ball over 1 time today. They struggled to convert on 3rd down going 4-14. they must improve on that to have a chance in Denver next week. That DMC burst appears to be back.

    orivar…You’re just clueless.
And if you didnt watch the game, then you have no reason to comment on it from just 1 minute of highlights and a few stats. oo many fanstasy football people out there who just know stats, and not football.
If you watched the game, TP made so very good decisions, some of the throws he didnt throw were smart . 50 yards rushing and 126 yards passing with the WIN ? I’ll take that everytime. Hows Vick feeling with his 400+ yds passing and big L ??
And why throw if you can get 200+ on the ground ? This isnt a Madden Video game, it’s the NFL, and any win is a great win !

  33. raidernation37 says: Sep 15, 2013 8:48 PM

I’m glad we won but the offense needs to find the end zone and not settle for field goals. Our defense is improving but isn’t good enough to win by kicking fg’s. That being said you have to start somewhere and a win is a win. Time to build upon this and we’ll see what we can do against alien cranium and the donkeys next week. Good job this week Raiders!!!! Keep it going!!

The national media ‘conveniently’ think that the Jags is the only 0-2 team; What about these other ‘hot’ teams, like the G-Men, Skins, Panthers, Bucs, Browns, and Vikes? People act as if the Jags don’t have a crapload of injuries right now.

  54. murfdeezy says: Sep 16, 2013 12:07 AM

I’m excited about a win. I think it is good for a team in the rebuilding process to find some success and get a taste for it, especially if they are playing for contracts and can see some potential for future success. That being said, I was far more impressed with the performance in last weeks loss to the Colts than I was with the win over the Jags today. Forget the haters, but we have to be honest with ourselves as Raider fans too. I was happy with the way the defense played today, but it looks like Branch will be out for a while now. Allen said his ankle looked like it could be a serious injury in the post game press conference, so that’s not good news for us. We are working with a pretty thin roster already. We can’t afford to lose any more ball players…especially early in the season.

The more important issue will be the development of Pryor. The offensive line played surprisingly well today and we ran the ball effectively, but we cannot afford to have that many trips to the red zone and not come away with touchdowns. I fully expect every team on the schedule to be better than the Jags and every week there is more tape on Pryor for everyone to see. We need to execute better and overachieve for a respectable season this year. With Denver coming in next week it will be very difficult to build momentum for even another week. I hope we can and I am very curious to see how Pryor and the defense handle the challenge and respond to championship caliber adversity. It should be a good indication of what we really have to work with right now….although I expect us to play them tougher the second time when we get it together and get some key players healthy again. Go Raiders!! Peace out.

    —————————————————-

First of all I know the game better than you, the win was against the Jaguars of all teams who have essentially no defense. Making reads against a D that can’t rush you nor stop your wide outs isn’t anything to be proud of, not at all. When he can make good reads under duress against a team that belongs in the NFL like the Broncos then you will have an argument.

50 yards rushing and 126 yards passing against the Jaguars. YAY! A fight for the bottom of the division reaps no rewards.

  56. sicklnick121 says: Sep 16, 2013 8:13 AM

  57. jvn36 says: Sep 16, 2013 10:15 AM

Peyton manning who? This win is an obvious sign the raiders will begin their dynasty this year. Pryor is 10x better than RG3 and kaepernick combined. If the NFL wasnt rigged, the raiders would have won the last like 5 superbowls. Don’t you realize that?

  58. varnbo says: Sep 16, 2013 10:18 AM

Last time I checked the Jaguars were in the NFL.
I’ll bet the 15 teams that lost yesterday disagree with you watering down the Raiders win.

A win is a win without conditions!

  59. yourmomsnewfriend says: Sep 16, 2013 10:58 AM

While a win is a win, history has proven that the ones which matter (in regards to the odds of a team making it into, and winning in the playoffs) are the wins against good teams with winning records.

The Jaguars are SO immeasurably bad, that they really should only give the Raiders and Chiefs half-wins for the last two weeks.

But, all that being said, the AFC West went 4-0 this weekend! When was the last time everyone stepped up at the same time?

  60. murfdeezy says: Sep 16, 2013 11:16 AM

I can’t wait to see some division games so we know what the we really have in this team! Obviously we got better, but it looks like the rest of the division did too….soooo we could easily still be the worst team in the division if you look at the records. Still….I can’t help but feel like we can beat the KC and SD. I don’t know about Denver. They look like they are out to make a point this year…and I pride myself on being a realist. I just hope we play them tough.

I think the AFC West looks 100% compelling for the first time in ages. But I wouldn’t bet a single dollar on any divisional games. They’re just TOO hard to call. Sure, Denver has been going like crazy, but honestly, look who they have played. The Ravens are NOT the same Ravens which won the SuperBowl, and the Giants? They might be the worst team in the league right now.

One thing is for sure. There aren’t going to be any divisional sweeps this year. I’m thinking all four teams might split.
