Steven Jackson scores, suffers thigh bruise in the process

The good news for Falcons running back Steven Jackson is that he scored a touchdown in the first quarter of his first game against his old team, the Rams.

The bad news is that Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree hit Jackson just as Jackson was getting into the end zone, and Jackson ended up with a thigh bruise. The Falcons announced that Jackson is questionable to return.

There was nothing dirty about Ogletree’s hit, although Jackson seemed unhappy about it and gave Ogletree a little shove as he was getting up.

Jacquizz Rodgers will carry the load at running back for the Falcons until Jackson’s return.

Reminds me of the time Jackson ran for a touchdown, untouched, on his first carry of the season a few years ago and was subsequently out for the next few weeks with a quad injury. I loved the guy’s toughness and dedication when he played for the Rams, but he is somewhat injury prone.

If there was nothing untoward about the hit, then why did SJ shove Ogletree? Just because it wasn’t dirty does not mean the hit was necessary. Perhaps this was what SJ was thinking.

How is this even worthy of discussion? Jackson was probably just pissed he was injured and did it out of frustration. Didn’t even notice he pushed him on TV… the announcers didn’t even bring it up. So couldn’t have been much of anything.

I think every running back who takes a handoff Sunday will suffer a thigh bruise.
