Alfonzo Dennard admits violating probation, sentencing in December

New York Jets v New England Patriots Getty Images

Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard admitted in court today that he violated his probation on the night in July when he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to Jonathan Edwards of the Lincoln Journal Star, a judge in Nebraska found today that Dennard has violated his probation. That came after a short hearing at which Dennard admitted that he had been drinking alcohol before his DUI arrest. (Dennard has not admitted guilt to drunk driving, and he says he had consumed only two beers, four and a half hours before getting behind the wheel.)

However, while the judge could have thrown Dennard in jail immediately, instead Dennard will remain on probation until he is sentenced on December 5. So for the time being, Dennard will avoid having his legal issues affect his NFL career.

But Dennard isn’t necessarily clear until December. He also has a court date on October 8 on the DUI charge. Although Dennard says he couldn’t blow hard enough to get an accurate reading on a breathalyzer after he was pulled over in that incident, the prosecutor says Dennard was purposely failing to blow hard enough, and that partial readings based on two attempted breathalyzer samples indicated that his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit.

And regardless of what happens with the DUI charge, the NFL may view Dennard’s admission in court today as a violation of either the league’s personal-conduct policy or its substance-abuse policy. If so, Dennard could face a league-imposed suspension even before his next court date.

Dennard was arrested for hitting a police officer days before the Patriots drafted him in 2012, and he was convicted of a felony in connection with that incident in April of this year. That’s when he was initially sentenced to probation, and three months later came his arrest on suspicion of DUI.

On the field, Dennard has started both games for the Patriots this season.

Kenbrell Thompkins makes Dennard look like a choir boy. Thompkins did time for selling crack. The Patriots players have tons of character issues.

Alf said he was driving under the influence. Of the voices in his head. They said things like, “Slow down then speed up. Then slow down again. Weave back and forth a bit. Signal left, but turn right. Stay at the intersection well after the light turns green. Stick your tongue out at the patrolman in the car beside you….”. Sometimes they lead you astray.

Seems like the judge went easy on him for now

That could indicate some feeling that the police were out to get him – though Dennard still shouldn’t have given them cause

Most NFL players deny doing anything wrong even when caught red handed.

At least Dennard manned up and admitted his guilt to the court. That’s more than most NFL guys in trouble do.

I love the Patriot Nation way of pointing at every other team to justify their indiscretions, Spygate is the best example. You have a crack dealer, accused murderer, Talib has been arrested for battery, players that have failed drug tests and Garrette Blount was suspended 10 games in collage for sucker punching another player. Dennard is just another example of the character issues on this team.

An NFL Cornerback without enough lung power to blow hard enough in a breathalyzer. Yeah Right. Guilty as charged.

I’ve just consumed truth serium. Here’s what I know:
    1. Nobody taped other teams defensive signals in plain view of 50K people. Defensive coord. only cover their mouths in case they sneeze. Only the Pats did this.
    2. Hernandez is still running routes for the Patriots on Sunday. The Pats knew he was a murderer and when accused they praised him.
    3. Pats have players that failed drug tests. Only team in the history of the NFL….true story
    4. Pats drafted L. Blount to be starting RB in 2010 with the #1 pick RIGHT after watching tape of his sucker punch in college.

You’re right bro…it’s just the Pats. Keep telling yourself that. It’s called professional sports…young, dumb, famous and rich. It’s not for everyone

And I love the way the Pats haters act like when someone on the Pats does something its 100 times worse than if a player on another team does the same thing.

I don’t think anyone is defending what Dennard has done. What we are defending is acting like this kid is a murderer like Hernandez, when his problems are a hell of a lot less than that.

Other teams guys does it = minimal problem or no big deal
Pats player does it = he is Satan on earth and must be treated like the greatest evil of all time

Its called a double standard. A significant number of the posters on PFT post with such a double standard when it comes to the Pats.

Where’s Dan Dierdorf when you need him? Someone has to tell us what a first class organization the Pats are what high character they seek in players.
Lets tell the truth they have a coach who should have been banned! He cheated in a Superbowl. A TE who is basically a serial killer( allegedly). And quite a few other players who can’t stay out of trouble.
Looks like the rest of the AFC East is improving while NE is not they are getting older and When Brady is gone the Pats and their smug fans can go back to what they were before! Cellar dwellers!

  23. kgun80 says: Sep 16, 2013 2:30 PM

    @harrisonhits2
Seriously is a pats fan whining about a double standard?! Seriously?! The only double standard I see.. Is the bias of the league the commissioner the referees and the media. The deferential treatment this team receives from all of the above is a joke! The Saints lost their Head coach for a year because one if his coordinators made a statement about hurting other players. None of this was proven… Ask Vilma.
But… The NFL has full video audio and testimony from a previous coordinator proof that the whole team participated in taping other teams signals and walk throughs, and used them in game planning sessions before a Super Bowl!!

But they lose a minimal amount of $$ and an extra draft pick they had. So my point… No Pats fan should ever ever talk about double standards and bias! The Pats have been riding double standards and bias for a decade!

    Patriot blowhards.

What other team has the slogan “The (insert team) Way” and pretends they are so much more special than every other NFL team? Exactly.

What other team has a player in jail for murdering 3 people and shooting another in the eye. Exactly

What other team was caught cheating for well over a decade? Exactly.

Shut up losers, go back to saddling up next to Jimmy at the baaaarrhhhhh and watching your sad sack team get rolled once they start playing real competition. It’s over.

Dennard didn’t man up, he avoided perjuring himself. He admitted he drank the reason being there were a bar full of people that saw him drinking. He hasn’t copped to anything else including the assault on a Police Officer or his DUI. Then he plays games saying he didn’t have the lung capacity for the breathalyzer. He is not manning up to anything.

Man, people really need to get a life. The Pats have had a dynasty for over a decade in the NFL, which is remarkable, 3 Super Bowls, and they really should have had 2 more if not for a lucky, fluke catch by Tyree in a game that the Giants were clearly outplayed and if Gronk were healthy Pats win in 2012 going away.

Playoffs every year since Brady/Belichick, 11, 12, 13 wins a season. I guess people just love to take down #1. People I guess will look past the criminals on the Bengals or the drug addicts on the Broncos or the bounty gaters on the Saints to take down #1.

Patriot fans are arrogant and pathetic…..luckily the Seahawks fans seem to be a tad bit worse

I don’t understand all these statements about easy schedules made up by the powers that be. The schedule is a well-defined pre-made setup. It goes in a rotation each year. There’s no mystic magic ball held by Goodall in the back behind the curtains to make the Pats, or whatever team your getting your hate on, an easier schedule.
