Falcons lose Kroy Biermann for season with Achilles

The Falcons defense doesn’t have to be great this year, it just has to be good enough.

But they lost one of their key parts today, as Falcons coach Mike Smith said defensive end Kroy Biermann was out for the year after suffering a torn Achilles. Fullback Bradie Ewing is also headed to IR with a shoulder injury.

Biermann’s a versatile defender, who can rush from inside, and was also getting looks at linebacker in coordinator Mike Nolan’s hybrid scheme.

Biermann had 16.5 sacks the past five seasons.

Maybe they will sign “The Terminator” at fullback. Tough loss on Biermann, though.

Ugh, knew it was going to be bad. Get well soon Kroy. See you next season.

Wow,huge loss for that defense. Pretty impressive to see a guy that big dropping back into pass coverage.

Team’s not going anywhere anyway. Lucky not to be 0-2.

You can always count on Saints fans to be classy.

Biermann is a big loss. Get well soon, Kroy.

I also put this on their awful coaching staff. They had Kory doing too much and should have seen that after the way the Saints burned him so often last week. Mike “the panic” Smith strikes again!

Falcons lose Kroy Biermann for season with Achilles

Oh crap, I have TWO Achilles! How long am I gonna be out?

Falcons just got better with the loss of Kroy… HA!

The best team in the NFC South is 0-2.

Did a Bucs fan seriously smack talk on this thread? They have no coach, no QB and no hope.

  14. Mygoldtooth says: Sep 16, 2013 3:28 PM

Lets talk about Atlanta fans always bringing up Katrina. Yeah, real classy. How about filling half your stadium for a change?

  15. grendelg says: Sep 16, 2013 3:37 PM

Oh really? Do we come in and gloat in the comments of a story about your player being injured? Pretty sure we don’t. That classiness belongs all to you and yours.

Classless fans of a classless organization.

  16. boisestatewhodat says: Sep 16, 2013 3:41 PM

Goldtooth is right also…Atlanta fans ranked 31st on ESPN’s list of most loyal, enthusiastic fans…Saints fans ranked 4th behind NE, GB and Chicago. Where’s this ‘classy’ crap always come from…its football. I’ll be classy when I go to Ruths Chris or the Broadmore in Colorado Springs…

He plays for the enemy but I don’t wish injury on any player, even those who play for Atlanta. Get well soon so the Saints can legitimately beat your butt on the field again.

Tough loss. He’s a good player. He wreaked havoc on my Saints all day long!

No time to relax for him, his wife is having twins!

Tough loss for Atlanta. As a Saints fan I hate the Falcons so much that I refuse to shop at Home Depot. With that said, I still have respect for some of the players and Kroy is one of them. Anyone that is versatile enough to play DT, DE, LB, and run down the field in coverage on TE’s and RB’s gets respect from me. Good luck and speedy recovery to you Kroy.

  21. robf2010 says: Sep 16, 2013 4:25 PM

That’s a tough loss. That guy was all over the field last week. Tough to replace a guy who can do just about everything. Get well soon, Kroy.

  22. Smarterthanyou says: Sep 16, 2013 4:55 PM

I feel bad for Kroy. As soon as Kim finds out that he isn’t getting any more big contracts she is gonna dump him faster than you can say “Seahawks Super Bowl Champs”
Then she will find a new sucker to gold dig off of

  23. n1pope says: Sep 16, 2013 5:46 PM

Typical a saints fan would come on this website and act classless. What do you expect when the first game their coach is back a loser takes a late hit on our QB and gets fined AGAIN. Isn’t that kinda why he lost a season to begin with. TYPICAL!!!!!

12 year season ticket holder, as well as a huge Beer Man fan. I watched the play, and his anguish, describing to the medical staff with his hands how his Achilles tendon “snapped” like a twig.

Big guy wanted to hobble off the field without the meatwagon. He is such a beast.

Having said all this, we will be a better team with him on the sidelines. WE have massive rookies, champing at the bits. We have a depth of linebackers so deep a rookie beat out vet’s to start. We have stud corners and solid safeties.

Versatility? Look at No 50’s tip and git for six against Slinging Sammy Bradford. Look at 4th depth WR Drew Davis, kicking major ass on Special Teams.
William Moore’s spinebuster on Rams TE Mike McNeil.

Nah, tain’ts fanz…you squeaked by TB this week. You have won by a total of 3 points in 2 games. If the Falcons ‘suck’ as much as you squeal, and TB ‘sucks’ like we all know they do, then your precious team is going to have a tough time against the rest of those ‘non suck’ teams.

Mocking a team as weak that you not only didn’t beat, but actually lost the game for your w, is not something to thump your chest over, little crawdads.

That sucks for Kroy. He is a great player and will be missed. Enjoy the time off with your son and new kids on the way. Get well soon.

With that said we know what we had with Kroy. He was versatile and a jack of all trades. You need some of those on your squad, and he squeezed every ounce of physical talent out of his body and played all out. However, we know what his ceiling was. Max 4 sacks and some hustle plays.

I think Massaquoi and Goodman have more upside as pass rushers, and that’s what we need at the moment. Also Bartu > in coverage than Biermann. In fact after Sunday, I doubt Nicholas gets on the field much anymore. Time to see what the young guys can do.

So many times Biermann ALMOST got to the QB. I think the rooks get there.
