Manti Te’o is getting closer toward being able to make his regular season debut for the San Diego Chargers.

According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Te’o is expected to return to practice for the Chargers on Wednesday after missing the first two games of the season with a foot injury.

Te’o was injured in the Chargers’ exhibition opener against the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 8 and has been sidelined ever since. He only saw nine snaps of action against the Seahawks before going down with the injury.

I’m not used to sitting out that much,” Te’o said. “It’s not something I’ll ever get used to.”

Te’o was selected by the Chargers in the second round of the draft and was expected to start alongside Donald Butler in their 3-4 defensive scheme. With Te’o out, second-year linebacker Bront Bird has started both games and recorded 15 tackles.

  1. It will be interesting to see which hype he will really fall under. Is it the hype of pre-Alabama and fake girlfriend plot, or will it be the guy who got destroyed by Alabama’s interior line.

I also realize that one game won’t tell us either way, esp since sitting out since August.

  2. Well, inside linebacker and outside linebacker are two very different positions. Gholston was getting paid for QB sacks the kind he did not produce and made him a bust as for Teo he was brought in because he’s good in coverage. he had 7 Int’s as a senior so to compare them both is really dumb. Teo will do great once he’s healthy. As for who filled in for Teo against the Eagles in week 2 it wasn’t Bront Byrd or Terrelle Manning it was #52 Reggie Walker, as we all know Larry English is now wearing his old NIU #51. GO CHARGERS!!!!!!!
