Okung likely out this week

Seahawks left tackle Russell Okung has turf toe, a sprain of the ligaments in his big toe.  The bad news is the injury likely will keep Okung from facing the Jaguars on Sunday.

The good news is the Seahawks are facing the Jaguars on Sunday.

Coach Pete Carroll called the sprain “significant” on Monday, and he addressed whether Okung will be able to play.

I don’t think that’s possible,” Carroll said, via Terry Blount of ESPN.com.  “We’ll wait and see. There are some options that we’ll deal with to try to figure it out. We need to wait and see.  It’s a spectrum of options.”

On Sunday night, left guard Paul McQuistan slid to left tackle, and James Carpenter stepped in at guard.  The Seahawks have two rookie tackles who were inactive on Sunday night against the 49ers.

  1. I love the ‘Hawks and I love the way the game turned out last night. And I think Okung is the best left tackle in the NFL, but it doesn’t mean much if he is constantly hurt. He has Michael Vick Syndrome–outstanding player who is somewhat worthless if he doesn’t play. Vick has finished one 16-game season in his career. Okung, sadly, is about the same.

  2. Athletes diagnosed with turf toe should avoid their sport at least three weeks to allow the joint capsule to heal. Without doing so, the injury can progress, and can lead to an even longer recuperation.

It is not uncommon for athletes to try to come back too soon, or to try to play through the injury. Unfortunately, this usually leads to a more chronic injury, and ultimately a longer recovery.

Hawks need to make sure he is 100% before bringing him back…..

  3. Who cares? Andre Branch’s inability to bend the corner on the pass rush is borderline comical. Unless Russell Wilson happens to “intersect” Branch and the straight line he runs every snap, they won’t even need a tackle out there, let alone a stud like Okung.

  4. Okung’s a good player, but he’s not the best LT in football. Also what is this? “outstanding player who is somewhat worthless if he doesn’t play”. So you’re telling me that Okung is worthless when he doesn’t play. What a shocker!!!! Here I thought players actually had an impact on the game from the sidelines.

  5. As a hawks fan i really hope that they prep for the Jags as well as they did the Niners. Anyone remember the Chiefs taking out the undefeated Packers? you cant overlook anyone in this league.

  6. no offense to jags fans, but that team is in a serious rebuilding mode. Just a fact. Theoretically speaking Seattle could play all backups and still win the game handily, it being in seattle and all. May as well treat it like a pseudo bye-week.

  7. Wow. The drunkest fans in the league, in a special stadium, with pumped up fan noise win a stupid record. I can’t wait until some dome team decides to be the second group of fans in the nfl to try this.
I live in montana and I’ve travelled to several games in Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle, and Atlanta. Mostly Seattle.

Seattle is by far the rudest fan base. The noise is way overhyped too. Atlanta is way louder for nfl games.

The Seattle fan base is a joke. These are the same people who haven’t been to a Mariner game in 10 years, and ran Kevin Durant out of town.

The whole 12th man garbage was stolen from Texas a&m.

    Fakers.

  8. You can put a mannequin out there and the miserable Jags pass rush wouldn’t get more than 1 sack. Give the 20.5 points to Vegas and make yourself some easy money. This is gonna be a massacre. Richard Sherman is actually gonna feel guilty for trash talking since the Jags are playing like a special needs team.

  9. Okung is pretty close to being the best LT in football. It was his penalties that held him back (false starts). He was ranked as top 3 in pass protection and even though we run right more than left we were number 2 in rushing only behind Washington last year. But if anyone looks at his injuries, the first one he was rolled up on at practice can happen to anyone on the line. The second year he went to IR Trent Cole was getting shut down and after the play he judo flipped Okung tearing his pectoral muscle. After that he’s been Pro Bowl level LT. The turf toe is a concern because if its not given time to heal it can linger with players their whole careers. I said Jags had no chance before, this may be closer than we think.

  12. Hard to argue, as of right now…

Seattle is the best team in the NFC with the biggest home field advantage in the NFL.
