Taylor hints Rice spat on him, but Harbaugh saw no magic loogie

Ray Rice AP

September 15, 2013. Browns. Ravens. They were enjoying a beautiful afternoon at M&T Bank Stadium when a crucial penalty was called on Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor.

On the game’s first possession, Taylor tackled Ravens running back Ray Rice. A second later, Taylor says, “something happened” that changed us in a deep and profound way from that day forward.

Taylor didn’t scream, “I’m hit!” But he did hint after the game that he slapped Rice only after Rice spat on him.

Unfortunately, John Harbaugh has viewed the Zapruder-like film of the incident, and he says the film contradicts the whole premise of Taylor’s account.

“I watched it,” Harbaugh said. “I didn’t see that on the tape at all.”

It’s unclear whether Taylor said something to provoke Rice, like, “Nice game, pretty boy,” but whatever happened caused Taylor’s head to turn back and to the left. Maybe there was a second spitter behind the bushes over by that gravely road.

The sad thing is we may never know the real truth.

When I first glanced at that headline, I thought this story was about the legendary ‘Niner WRs of the 80′s and 90′s.

    Joemontanaflacco = wearethesteelers

He messed up on the article “Steelers have some tough decisions to make” by posting under the name “Joemontanaflacco” instead of “wearethesteelers”. Textbook troll tactic.

Coach Harbaughs says you want my opinion with my blinders on or off? Come on……the biggest whining coach is going to be objective right….sure like he is looking for a missing white suit.

The Browns spit on their fans every game… every year.

Start winning – then you can complain.

Before everyone starts trashing Harbs and Rice please note this: later in the game Rice and Taylor were chatting followed by a playful butt slap by Taylor. Can you honestly tell me that Taylor got spat on to the point of going after Rice and only 30 minutes later on good terms with some playful chatter and butt slapping? I call bull on the spat. Just looking for an excuse.

Enough already make a rule where if you want to fight another player they both have to throw their helmet on to the ground and slug it out till the refs decide its enough. Then send them to a penalty box for a quarter of play. NFL is a copycat league so no crime in copying that from the NHL. Oh and if the player that throws off his helmet but the other is a bigger man then the emotional one goes to the penalty box. Whammmy!!! Dynamic change!

  23. @Cereal_22 says: Sep 16, 2013 8:22 PM

The Ravens have beat the sorry Browns 11 straight times, sounds like sour grapes to me.

  24. normanpaperman says: Sep 16, 2013 8:25 PM

 I thought he spit on him when I watched the incident during the game.

  25. brownsfan39 says: Sep 16, 2013 8:41 PM

My Browns do suck as usual, but the Ravens and Ray Rice are classless! Taylor should have been motivated by the “Midget” and done more during the game to help us win! Maybe next year!

  26. thetruuf says: Sep 16, 2013 8:51 PM

Yeah, real “crucial penalty” on the game’s first possession of a 14-6 game. Get real.

  27. yajas says: Sep 16, 2013 9:20 PM

Rice definitely did spit on him. I said that out loud as soon as they showed the replay.

  28. nananatman says: Sep 16, 2013 9:29 PM

Do a lot of players find each other pretty? I typically find other dudes gross as hell regardless of how many cheerleaders think he is pretty. Just me though but all of you people are gross as hell.)

  29. clevefan1 says: Sep 16, 2013 9:34 PM

I don’t know what’s worse…getting spit on in the face or someone grabbing your junk at the bottom of a pile.

  30. philly4lyfe says: Sep 16, 2013 9:57 PM

but why? why McDowell? maybe because we were cursing at him in the bullpen all game. he must have caught a glimpse of us when I dumped that beer on his head.

  31. dhsbennett says: Sep 16, 2013 10:04 PM

Not the first time a Raven spit in someones face…. Remember McClain spat in Channing Crowders face

    Classless Ravens strike again

  32. ohiogator says: Sep 16, 2013 10:19 PM

I saw when it happened and thought that rice did the same thing. He got a little karma tho ha….

  33. richndc says: Sep 16, 2013 10:49 PM

I believe what was being implied is that Rice spat on Taylor with his trouser snake–not his mouth. He even said “I think I cut my wrist, LOOK THE BLOOD!!!” like multiple Miggs in Silence of the Lambs.
