The Falcons have begun the process of back-filling the holes left in their defense by signing a pair of experienced linebackers.

The team announced they signed former Eagles linebacker Jamar Chaney and journeyman Omar Gaither, filling the roster spots created when linebacker Sean Weatherspoon was placed on short-term IR and defensive end Kroy Biermann the season-long version.

Chaney started 23 games the previous three seasons for the Eagles, including 16 in 2011. But he was released by the Eagles in their switch to a 3-4. Gaither’s been with the Eagles, Panthers, Texans and Raiders, and at 29 is a lot younger than he seems.

The Falcons also promoted Patrick DiMarco from the practice squad, to replace fullback Bradie Ewing, who was placed on IR also.
