Steven Jackson could miss some time with thigh injury

Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said after Sunday’s win over the Rams that he liked the fight his team showed.

He’s rapidly running out of guys to fight with, however, on both sides of the ball.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Falcons running back Steven Jackson could miss two to four weeks because of a thigh injury.

This comes on the heels of linebacker Sean Weatherspoon going on short-term IR and defensive end Kroy Biermann on the season-ending version, but this one strikes at the core of what the Falcons do best — score.

They brought Jackson in this offseason to upgrade from the used-up Michael Turner, and complement a passing game full of weapons. But with wide receiver Roddy White on one good leg, and now this departure, it might be hard for them to keep up the pace they need to compensate for a thin defense.

Backup running back Jacquizz Rodgers has proven himself unable to hold down a regular job, so the Falcons could skew more pass-heavy than before.

I wouldn’t say Rodgers has proven himself unable at all. I’ve not seen much worthwhile from him this season but he’s a speedy back and an extremely tough runner for his size. He’s not my first choice to hold down the top spot, but in a pinch for a couple weeks, I think he’s serviceable.

Jason Snelling will probably take over the #1 spot in the backfield. He’s a slower version of Jackson with good power, excellent pass protection, and very good hands. They’ll still run the ball but with less chance of breaking a big run (unless Quiz is in giving Snelling a break).

Jackson is injury prone should have kept Turner as a back up, Rodgers is just too small.

If we can get through the next three games with W’s without anymore major injuries, the bye week can help the team heal up. Hopefully by then White, Jackson, and possibly Spoons will recover and the o-line gets their act together.

If so then Fins are catching a break this weekend.

Injuries are Jackson’s achilles heel…no wait, that’s Kory.

Going to be tough for Falcons to win against Dolphins on the road with all of these injuries.

Not Matt will be able to put up enough points. It certainly can be done, but Fins are playing strong defense and they’re offense is putting up points too. Too much for the Dirty Birds this week.

Falcons have proven once more they can’t hold a lead even against the Rams. Not having Jackson only makes it more challenging to burn out the clock.
