Chargers, Raiders swap of home games still looming

ChargersRaiders

Earlier this month, MDS pointed out that the success of the Oakland A’s could prompt a shift in the Raiders schedule.

Per Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group, the Raiders and Chargers are still waiting to hear whether they’ll be trading home games, with the October 6 game moving from Oakland to San Diego, and the December 22 game moving from San Diego to Oakland.

The move would accommodate the A’s postseason schedule. It also would give each team a three-game home stand, with San Diego’s coming from Week Four through Week Six and Oakland wrapping the season with visits from each of its AFC West rivals.

Players and coaches would welcome not having to travel. The folks who sell the tickets, however, won’t relish three straight weekends with minimum sales requirements to lift the local blackout.

The Chargers already had to scramble to sell out their Week One home game. One or more blackouts would become likely if they play three straight home games starting September 29.

The Raiders would welcome not having to play another game on the dirt infield at the stadium they share with the A’s. Owner Mark Davis has called the arrangement a “travesty.”
