Suh on offensive linemen blocking at his knees: They’re just like gnats to me

Ndamukong Suh AP

Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was fined $100,000 after Week One for blocking Vikings center John Sullivan low during an interception return.

Suh was penalized for the play, wiping out a Lions touchdown, but there were no flags in Week Two when Cardinals guard Paul Fanaika threw a low block at Suh well behind a running play at almost the moment when the whistle blew to end the play. There shouldn’t have been a flag, offensive linemen can use cut blocks when they are in front of a player, but Suh was asked about whether he was upset about the different standards on Wednesday.

Suh shrugged it off as something that “happens all the time” when blockers are tying to stop him from reaching his desired goal.

“To me, it’s just gnats that are in the air that keep going after you,” Suh said, via Kyle Meinke of MLive.com. “You swat at ‘em, and sometimes you hit ‘em, sometimes you don’t. Sometimes they run away, sometimes they come back again. But ultimately, I’m just that bee going to find that honey hole. That’s what I do.”

Lions coach Jim Schwartz wouldn’t say if the team had turned the play into the league and said he was generally opposed to taking that kind of action while pointing out that Fanaika’s block wasn’t against the rules. Because of that important point, Suh and other defensive linemen don’t have much choice other than to do what they can to avoid such blocks over the course of a game.

Apparently sportsmanship, rules, and safety concerns are like gnats to Suh as well.

That’s actually a funny quote by Suh.

“I’m just that bee going to find that honey hole.”

That’s just awesome. I’m going to have to use that one.

And fines from the NFL are like the fungi that gnats prey on.

Let me guess…fat a$$ Fanica won’t get fined. Of course why would he, Goodell probably called him and asked him to do it.

    Brutal.

Actually, Schwartz did say they didn’t believe in squealing to the league office, especially regarding legal blocks. Doesn’t that answer the question?

The only reason that this is being noticed when it happens to d-linemen is because of Suh. This kind of crap happens all the time to d-linemen so it’s not surprising to me when they try and return the favor.

Of course that’s a flag because it’s easily pointed out on replays in interception/fumble returns when major injuries happen so the NFL is trying to make it safer (i.e. half-a$$ing yet another “safety” measure). When nose tackles like Ian Williams goes down because of it there’s not good video of it so oh well, right?

    @conchbybirth

Little shots like that are getting old or should i say gnat like.

Im pretty sure we all know what some people think of suh and little snarky comments like that just make you look desperate.

Gnats that will tear that ACL

GNAT’S!! every O-linemen he see should go after his knees from now until they hurt him bad. I dont like this bum. Suh cant play he’s only in the media for doing dirt on the field. Where are his sacks or run stuffs? batted balls.. fumble recoveries, for all this talk he should be doing alot more than just trying to hurt other players

He had 8 sacks not 10 last year. Mistype

Suh just stomps them like gnats.

Suh is so easy to antagonize, teams will have a field day with him this year. Guaranteed implosion, this idiot costs his team more than helps them.

Why would Schwartz turn him in, when sites like PFT have a constant camera on Suh and then have to write stories about every move he makes and how it could be dirty. i’m sure they know by now lol.

Ndamukong Suh on the rules committee: “They’re just gnats to me…”

Its a bit different when you’re facing them and have a chance to defend yourself.
