The Jets and Patriots scuffled at the tail end of New England’s 13-10 victory last Thursday night, leading to the ejection of two Jets players.
Left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson earned one of those ejections for throwing a punch at Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard and Ferguson said Wednesday that he had been fined by the league as a result. Ferguson didn’t divulge the amount of that fine, but Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports that he’ll be $15,000 lighter as a result of the fracas.
Jets right guard Willie Colon was also ejected for making contact with an official during the melee, but he said Wednesday he hasn’t heard from the league. Center Nick Mangold also hadn’t heard anything from the league in regard to his late, low hit on Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib at the end of an interception that touched everything off. Talib said Wednesday that he didn’t think Mangold’s hit was the cheap shot that his teammates seemed to believe it was.
“I thought he kind of dove a little early. He started to dive when I was inbounds and I kind of went out of bounds at the end of his dive,” Talib said, via ESPNBoston.com. “I didn’t see it as dirty. I haven’t seen it too many times, but I’m good. I ain’t worried about it.”
The NFL confirms all fines on Friday, so we’ll know for sure at that point whether or not the NFL shares Talib’s lack of concern.
