Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wasn’t able to finish out the team’s week Two victory over the Lions because of a hamstring injury.
The same injury kept him from joining his teammates at practice when they started preparing for this weekend’s game against the Saints. Coach Bruce Arians said that it was his call because Fitzgerald wanted to practice.
“He wants to practice; I’m not letting him,” Arians said, via Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. “I do not want him aggravating that again. We’ll take that day to day.”
If they want to have Fitzgerald at anything close to full strength on Sunday, resting the receiver during the week is a good idea and Arians said that Fitzgerald’s resume is such that he doesn’t necessarily have to practice in order to play in a game. Assuming there isn’t any aggravation in what’s left of the week, it seems a good bet that Fitzgerald will play this week.
While Fitzgerald sat, the Cardinals did have tight end Rob Housler at practice on Wednesday. It’s the first time his sprained ankle has felt good enough to do that since the start of the regular season and Arians said the team expected to have him in the lineup against New Orleans.
