Long week continues: Falcons without Sam Baker

AP

To cap off a long and frustrating week of injury news, the Falcons will be without their left tackle this week.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Sam Baker will miss Sunday’s game against the Dolphins because of knee and foot problems. He’ll be replaced by right tackle Lamar Holmes, which likely clears a spot for veteran Jeremy Trueblood, who has had a couple weeks to learn his way around.

That’s not the best news in the world against a team with as much pass-rush talent as the Dolphins, but it’s not the worst news the Falcons have had this week.

The Falcons already knew running back Steven Jackson wouldn’t play this week, after they put linebacker Sean Weatherspoon on IR/designated for return, along with fullback Brady Ewing and defensive end Kroy Biermann on the season-ending version.

  1. It’ll be close but the Falcons will win this one. They’ll dial up the short passes with slants, screens, etc. to keep the pressure off just like last week. Tannehill just isn’t a good enough QB to keep up.

  2. Cameron Wake always goes against the right tackle so why move your experienced right tackle over to the left to face Olivier Vernon and leave a guy still learning his way to face arguably the best pass rusher in the NFL. Doesn’t make sense to me. I know you want to protect Matt Ryan’s blind side, but your fist priority should be to block Cameron Wake.

problem is Oliver is losing snaps this week, the left side will be seeing more of shelby and jordan- wake disappeared last week. The DL is deep and versatile

  4. Im both a Dolphins fans and Falcons….let me explain. Im a Dophins fan living near ATL. Im a Falcons fan only because of my location I live. The Phins are the team I like. I think and im going for the Phins to win this one

  5. It’s kind of a joke that people keep making such a big deal of the Falcons’ injuries. All of their big playmakers — Julio, Roddy, Tony and Matty Ice — are all playing. The Dolphins’ injury report is just as long, if not longer:

    Clemons, Chris – Questionable
    Davis, Will – Probable
    Devlin, Pat – Questionable
    Ellerbe, Dannell – Probable
    Garner, Nate G – Probable
    Jerry, John – Probable
    Jordan, Dion – Probable
    Misi, Koa – Questionable
    Patterson, Dimitri – Out
    Pouncey, Mike – Questionable
    Soliai, Paul – Out
    Tannehill, Ryan – Probable
    Taylor, Jamar – Probable
    Vernon, Olivier – Probable
    Wallace, Mike – Questionable
    Wilson, Jimmy – Probable
