We mentioned earlier Saturday that Raiders left guard Lucas Nix is questionable for Monday’s game at Denver with an ankle injury.
However, even if Nix can play on Monday, he will not start, head coach Dennis Allen said Saturday, according to a transcript of his remarks from the club. Instead, backup Andre Gurode will get the call at left guard.
According to Allen, the decision was tied to Nix’s “health and the fact that he was limited in practice all week” rather than his performance. Nix was a limited participant in practice on Friday and Saturday and didn’t practice at all on Thursday.
Allen indicated Nix, who’s started the first two games at left guard, could be a game-time decision.
The 34-year-old Gurode replaced the injured Nix in the third quarter of the Raiders’ 19-9 win against Jacksonville. Gurode has 127 regular-season starts, but none since 2011.
