Raiders to start Andre Gurode at left guard on Monday night

We mentioned earlier Saturday that Raiders left guard Lucas Nix is questionable for Monday’s game at Denver with an ankle injury.

However, even if Nix can play on Monday, he will not start, head coach Dennis Allen said Saturday, according to a transcript of his remarks from the club. Instead, backup Andre Gurode will get the call at left guard.

According to Allen, the decision was tied to Nix’s “health and the fact that he was limited in practice all week” rather than his performance. Nix was a limited participant in practice on Friday and Saturday and didn’t practice at all on Thursday.

Allen indicated Nix, who’s started the first two games at left guard, could be a game-time decision.

The 34-year-old Gurode replaced the injured Nix in the third quarter of the Raiders’ 19-9 win against Jacksonville. Gurode has 127 regular-season starts, but none since 2011.

As a Jags fan watching the game last Sunday, I thought Nix was the weak spot on Oakland’s line. They should try Gurode even if Nix is healthy.

Of course having one weak spot in the interior of the offensive line is much better than having three, like the Jags.

Its an improvement, Raiders will run all over these Donkeys. With Pashos and Barnes holding down the Tackle spot, the whole line is playing well.

Hope Raider fan is stocked up on Kleenex and hankerchiefs. Crying time is almost here.

35-14 Broncos, and that’s only if Peyton takes his foot off the gas in the 2nd half.
