Aldon Smith’s locker is “completely empty”

We reported during Sunday’s Colts-49ers game that San Francisco linebacker Aldon Smith will be entering rehab sooner than later.

Sooner may already be here.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that Smith’s locker at Candlestick Park is “completely empty.”  It’s the only empty locker in the team’s locker room.

After Sunday’s 27-7 loss, coach Jim Harbaugh declined to say whether Smith will play on Thursday night, when the 49ers face the Rams.

Rehab doesn’t necessarily mean Smith will skirt a suspension.  As Peter King of TheMMQB.com reported during NBC’s Football Night in America, the league could still suspend Smith even if he misses four weeks or so for in-patient alcohol rehab treatment.

UPDATE 7:53 p.m. ET:  The 49ers have announced that Smith won’t play on Thursday night against the Rams.

When you look at the situations of Aldon and Von all you can do is shake your head. Sad.

Harboob plays Aldon Smith despite obvious reasons not to, and they get blown out anyway. Oh, the irony.

There is rehab for alcohol but rehab for weed is a ridiculous scam perpetrated by testing labs and the pharmaceutical industry. There is no such thing as rehabbing from marijuana addiction.
It would be better for all if he completed a personal responsibility course.

49ers fans should be disgusted with the product that was just put on the field. We are embarrassed for you. We wish we could cheer you up, but it will only get worse from here.

Should have let him sit out this game. Now he’s going to miss a game the 49ers have a chance to win.

Aldon Smith is such a loser, just like the whole 49er organization.

    Yes, we know.

We could tell by the way Crybaughby played him despite his LIFE issues.

  32. daroc88 says: Sep 22, 2013 8:12 PM

I don’t doubt that he may need help I just wonder about how much of this is for appearance vs. a genuine show of concern for the young man. Drunken driving is a serious offense, extremely serious but how many common men commit the same types of infractions over and over again? And then I beg the question – how much will rehab really help? Most alcoholics and or drug abusers need plenty of convincing, hitting rock bottom, before even giving rehab thought. How dedicated and serious is Aldon Smith about all of this? The fact that he played today leads me to believe he may not be all that serious.

A chance to win? Says who? Kaepernick couldn’t beat the Rams in 7 and a half quarters last year (after coming in midway in the 2nd quarter when Alex Smith was knocked out with a concussion).

Only a Lions fan would know what a loser organization is, so I’ll take your word for it.

Who woulda thunk the Raiders would be the best team in the Bay Area at this point?

  36. fdugrad says: Sep 22, 2013 8:20 PM

drgreenstreak: There was no weed involved. It was prescription drugs which, when added to the addiction of alcohol makes for daunting hill to climb for anyone.

  37. brizzle059 says: Sep 22, 2013 8:44 PM

well I truly hope he gets the help he needs. he’s a beast on the field and the division isn’t the same without him and I’m a hawks fan.

  38. raiderapologist says: Sep 22, 2013 8:49 PM

Candlestick was close to completely empty by the end of that game today. It was like the fans were all doing an Aldon Smith locker impersonation.
