Aldon Smith’s playing time will hinge on his mindset

Yes, 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith will play on Sunday.  But he may not play much.

Per a league source, Smith’s playing time for Sunday will hinge on his mindset.  If it seems that his Friday arrest for DUI and reportedly marijuana possession is affecting him, he could play sparingly.  If it isn’t, he could play more.

And while the Niners won’t be disciplining Smith, it’s becoming more clear that something is coming.  ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the player’s well being has become the focal point for the organization.  If the latest DUI incident shows that there’s a problem, getting that problem addressed is far more important than imposing punishment on the player.

Regardless, two of the best young defensive players in the NFL — Smith and Broncos linebacker Von Miller — now face serious challenges to their long-term viability and earning potential for reasons unrelated to their football ability.

His “mindset”??? What a joke of a franchise…

Not a Seahawks fan.. Not a 49ers “hater”.. But this is why Harbaugh has to watch what he says about people not following the rules..

    Glass House, Harbaugh…

He needs help, not punishment. It’s California where the rich go to rehap and the everyday person goes to jail. Come on Rodger, think of the well being of Jim Har…I mean Aldon.

He’ll get two sacks and a forced fumble today.

Dude is young, rich, and famous. Let him live it up. I don’t know why full time chauffeurs aren’t negotiated unto player contracts. That way when they are too impaired to make a good choice, there will be no choice to make.

    Typical standard-free franchise.

Hardblow needs to worry about his team, not others.

The league will def come down hard, they never act in a couple days on sumthin like this. He’s lookin at 4-6 gm suspension.

Unlike the 49ers, the Steelers have standards.

He doesn’t need help. He needs a driver. The 9ers are slime. Should be suspended for two games. Then he’ll think twice before putting other lives in danger.

Hope he arrives sober at the ground.

Why did you remove my post???????

I simply said that if he shows up blowing over .1 and reeking of happy stick, his mindset may not warrant a lot of playing time.

    Am I wrong???

Replace mindset with blood alcohol level.

I’ve always respected Harbaugh, being a Quarterback in this league as long as he was. But his lack of any action (as well as upper management) here is both surprising and disturbing on many levels.
And wearethesteelers, two words. Bathroom. Ben.

    Again, why remove the post?

It’s no secret that the Steeler players used horse steroids when they won in the 70’s & 80’s.

    Likely since.

Notice how their relevance has faded in proportion to the league testing for PEDs.

    Coincidence?

    I think not.

And yet Pete Carroll will say nothing, because he is a class act and doesn’t put his nose in other teams’ business.

The Harbaugh honeymoon is over. This guy won’t be here in 2 years. #Inheritedgreatnessyetdevelopedpigslop

Add Arizona’s Daryll Washington, on a 4 game suspension for substance abuse and possibly more pending a domestic dispute, and it’s 3 of the best young defensive players. Such a shame.

Of course most fans around the League are jealous of the 49ers fans since we have such a great team with great class and so few fans do.
I am glad that Harbaugh has such class that he keeps things in house and so he did not come out and explain in detail the reason they did not suspend Aldon (He is not allowed to suspend him under the CBA and the League office directed the team that they were not allowed to suspend him and that it is only the League that can do that if they find reason after the investigation ).
I am a proud fan of one of the teams that has always shown the most class in the League , Too bad some fans with no class are always attempting to run the Niners down ! That says more about the low class people who say such things than it does about the classy Niners !
Aldon is going to get the help he needs (rehab)for his addiction and until then the team is keeping him close so they can keep an eye on him so he does not fall deeper into his addiction while left alone (if he was suspended ,like many uninformed fans and writers were calling for the team to do ) .

I’m guessing when they say mindset they mean whether or not he’s too drunk to play.

“If the latest DUI incident shows that there’s a problem . . .”

Y’mean there are people out there that think he doesn’t have a problem after driving too drunk to stay on the road early on a work day?

    Two questions:

1 – Does the CBA direct who plays? Seems like last a year when a scrub San Fran player had a DUI she wasn’t allowed to suit up. I guess the rules have changed.

2 – How does Colon Krapernick look with one eyebrow?

Same old 49ers. They should put his bust in their Hall of Shame with Lawrence Phillips, Tim “Six Pack” Harris, Eddie DeBartolo, Carmen Policy and all players involved in the extensive salary cap cheating of the late 90’s (including but not limited to Steve Young, Jim Druckenmiller and Brent Jones).
