Finley takes hit to the head, flag isn’t thrown

Finley

The NFL wants its officials to aggressively enforce the rules regarding hits to the head of defenseless players. And the officials continue to miss fairly obvious violations in real time.

Last week, the officials missed a hit to the head of Chargers receiver Malcom Floyd by Eagles linebacker DeMeco Ryans. Ryans later was fined, which confirms the penalty was missed.

On Sunday, the officials on the crew led by Clete Blakeman blanked on a hit to the head of Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, who was struck in the head by Bengals safety George Iloka while trying to catch a pass.

Finley then tried to leave the field under his own power, but he staggered before ending up on the ground. He has exited the game and headed to the locker room, presumably for evaluation of a possible concussion.

The league will evaluate Iloka for a fine. And presumably issue one.
