Gronkowski still closer to doubtful than questionable

Gronk AP

Officially, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers after multiple offseason surgeries.  That means he’s technically 50-50 to play.

Unofficially, a league source says it’s still closer to doubtful than questionable that Gronkowski will play.

As Sunday morning, keep an eye on the reports that will emerge and, ultimately, the list of inactive players released roughly 90 minutes before kickoff.

The Pats could use him.  With cornerback Darrelle Revis likely to blanket Julian Edelman, Pats quarterback Tom Brady needs a reliable target who can both get open and catch the ball.

If Gronkowski doesn’t play on Sunday, the next question becomes whether he’ll be ready to go when the Falcons host the Patriots in Week Four, on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

I say he plays. His presence will allow rookie TE Zach Sudfield to have more opportunity to get open and make plays for New England.
