Holmgren didn’t quit after Favre trade

BigShow

Former Packers coach, Seahawks coach/G.M., Seahawks coach/non-G.M., and Browns CEO Mike Holmgren recently provided a harsh critique of the trade that sent Browns running back Trent Richardson to the Colts.

Holmgren didn’t like it. In fact, Holmgren’s regard for the trade was so low that he said he would have quit if he had been the Cleveland head coach.

That position from Holmgren conjured memories of another trade that happened not long after Holmgren became a head coach for the first time, way back in 1992. Per a league source, Holmgren was strongly opposed to the trade that brought Brett Favre from the Falcons to the Packers.

But it happened over his objection. And Holmgren didn’t quit.

So maybe the message to a coach who initially doesn’t like a trade would be to give it a chance. After all, Holmgren ultimately earned millions (and a Super Bowl ring) thanks in large part to a trade that happened against his wishes.
