Patriots beat the Bucs easily

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v New England Patriots Getty Images

The Patriots started the season by winning two close games. The Buccaneers started the season by losing two close games. When they met today, it wasn’t close.

The Patriots beat the Buccaneers easily, jumping out to a 17-3 halftime lead and coasting through the second half. The Bucs did march down the field and put together a nice drive in the first quarter to take an early 3-0 lead, but once the Patriots’ offense got going, this game was never in doubt. The final score was 23-3.

What’s also not in doubt is that the Patriots’ passing game is going to be in good shape as long as Tom Brady is healthy, even if all the new faces in the receiving corps have some growing pains. Brady put together a quiet but methodically effective game and looked fine even without Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola.

The Buccaneers looked anything but fine. They struggled on both sides of the ball, and Josh Freeman’s bad game is going to lead to increased chatter that Greg Schiano may soon decide to go with rookie quarterback Mike Glennon. At 0-3, the Bucs are going nowhere fast.

But at 3-0, the Patriots are once again looking like a team that will march to the playoffs. There will be hiccups along the way, but the Patriots will be just fine.

And the Bucs’ ship continues to sink.

Season’s over. Seriously, cut your losses. You might be able to get something for the vets. Good young core. New coach and GM.

  3. bucrightoff says: Sep 22, 2013 4:04 PM

3 straight games under 50%. 3 straight games with an absolutely brutal, rookie level mistake. Josh Freeman is not an NFL starting QB. Glennon might not be either, but you won’t know until you find out.

  4. Nic says: Sep 22, 2013 4:06 PM

I really don’t want to hear anything about Josh Freeman being at fault for this game. He hit his receivers in the hands most of the time and we had drops that killed drives. You can’t go three and out with Tom Brady on the other sideline. He is just too good. This game could have been a LOT better, but it also could have been a LOT worse. This feels like Tony Dungy’s early years, the defense is really starting to come together, but the offense isn’t even able to tread water.

This is the best Patriots defense in a while. The competition hasn’t been great but they’ve definitely done their job well. What a difference Talib has made.

The Patriots have played three pretty good defenses so far. They lost Amendola and Vereen yet the still found a way to get to 3-0. Gronk will be back soon (hopefully next week) and if these rookies receivers continue to develop the Patriots offense will get better and better as the year goes on.

  7. meandjuliojonesdownbytheschoolyard says: Sep 22, 2013 4:28 PM

Bucs defense played fine. The receivers couldn’t seem to catch any balls and left Freeman out to dry. He played pretty well, but can’t do everything. Also, both Bucs starting receivers went down with injuries .

Who else out there in fanville are so surprised the Patriots win easily,,who have they played, has to be one of the top three easiest schedules once again.

I’m a big pats fan but I’m not drinking the Kool-aid yet. 3 wins vs. sub par teams. The defense is the shining part of the team right now but can the offense score enough vs. better defenses to win?

225 YDS ……. Lmao…..on 25 completions….lmao…..you managed the game well this week Tom….lol…..and only turned it over once…good gob bud…..what is he avg a game now 190 YDS a game with 1 TD 1 INt?….lol…..this team is in a world of hurt this year and pats fans don’t even know it.

Tampa has the best WR in the league– for dropped passes. It also didn’t help that Jackson got hurt in the game and didn’t come back. Williams also was hurt, but played hurt. Think they even had their kick returner playing WR.

No wonder Freeman’s stats are horrible.

It doesn’t help they went thru 4 kickers before deciding on the present one. He may very well be the cause of losing the NO game.
He screwed up another short one today-so much so, it read like the Bucs were going for it on 4th downs apparently, instead of going for field goals.

    What a mess.

Good to see the offense starting to click after a slow start. Very good to see that level of game from the Defense. 0-4 on 4th down, nice pick before the half.

But we need to continue to improve on offense. 6-15 on third down won’t get it done against the Falcons. I hope Gronk comes back in form.

  16. brazzz01 says: Sep 22, 2013 5:22 PM

Clearly the Patriots are cheating again. It’s outrageous the league lets them get away with it again and again.

Do you really think a team with a Trent Dilfer wannabe at QB would be 3-0 without cheating? Please.

  17. 8man says: Sep 22, 2013 5:22 PM

Patriots are @Atlanta, @Cincinnati, host New Orleans, @New York and then host Miami.

We will learn much about them through this stretch. Wow!

  18. onebucplace says: Sep 22, 2013 5:23 PM

Do you idiots that say Freeman sucks even watch the game? He had at LEAST 6 drops including a TD and a HUGE 4th down conversion. If you did watch the game and still think Freeman is the issue please do the world a favor and take a leap off the Skyway.

Morris never made me wish Gruden was back — his teams had very little talent. Schiano has a good team and not a clue how to use his players. He’s a college hack and should have stayed there.

Have you even seen the Patriots Schedule this year? Falcons, Broncos, Saints, Ravens, Bengals, Houston?? You calling those teams soft? So sick of people who don’t read up on their facts before making ignorant comments. If you were all twice as smart you’d still be stupid!

Keep cryin’ girls. Maybe you should go play with your dollies instead of watching football.

They’ll win their division by default, and get smoked first round.

Great point. I just realized Goodell moved the Patriots to the East this year where they play 6 games against the Jets, Bills and Fins. That was a sly move on his part.

Yea cause the nfl doesn’t have a system of rotating in conference and out of conference division schedules that they follow every single year. Not to mention you play two teams that finished in the same place in their respective divisions. So yea Goodell must be cheating for the pats!!!

    Moron!!

Buffalo wasn’t sub par in week one. They looked every bit as good as New England.

Early in the season, even bad teams don’t know they’re bad yet, and some games they play very well.

The Patriots division games are struggles more often than they are blowouts.

I just love these people screaming about how “easy” the Patriots schedule is.

They still have Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Cinci, Denver and Baltimore on their schedule. And the Dolphins, twice.

Have any of you been paying attention to what’s happening in Miami? Easy? Really? The Fins can’t wait to get their hands on New England.

You may “like” football but you clearly don’t understand it very well.

Not only do the Patriots play a difficult, first place schedule this year – Denver, ATL, NO, Houston, Cinn, etc….

…but the AFC East has the best record of ANY division at 9 – 3 with all 3 of the losses coming within the division. It’s the ONLY conference with two 3-0 teams. Even the last place Bills beat Carolina who just pasted the Giants 38-0.

    Try again junior…
